Meal-A-Day
Every morning the volunteer cooks of Meal-A-Day arrive at the senior center at 7 am to prepare delicious meals for your local seniors. All meals are prepared and ready to deliver by 10 am. About 120 to 180 meals are prepared each day. It’s a well orchestrated process as each driver pulls up, loads coolers and crates then head off.
Director Karon Weatherman tells us they are almost always in need of volunteer drivers to fill the orders.
People not on the normal route, just wanting to pickup a meal or 2 or 4…. can call any morning and arrange a ‘Walk Out”. Come in early and join in the Senior Activities going on every day. Meal-A-Day gladly accepts donations.
For weekly Meal-A-Day ordering walk-outs call Karon Weatherman at (903) 885- 1661. Check with KSSTRadio.com for menus and volunteer opportunists.
Diver Recovers Weapon; Mother, Son Arrested
July 7, 2015 – A woman lost a purse from her car in an auto burglary and the credit cards taken from the purse were used at Walmart in Mineola. From surveillance video, Hopkins County sheriff’s officers were able to identify the individual using the cards. That arrest led officers to another individual, which will enable the clearing of all the remaining car burglaries that recently occurred in the county. Three different groups had been arrested already and now another. Steven Charles Gilreath, 18, has been arrested for the remaining burglaries. Gilreath threw two different weapons into area waters according to Lewis Tatum, Chief Criminal Investigator for the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office. One pistol, recovered Monday from Lake Sulphur Springs near the north boat ramp, and a second thrown into Peavine Pinion Pool at Buford Park. The second weapon has not been recovered but the magazine for it was recovered from the pool yesterday and divers will complete the work this week, according to Tatum.
Nessica Rachele Hale, 40, was arrested for use of the credit cards. Hale and Gilreath were working together in the burglaries. He would take the items and pass on the credit cards and other items to Hale. This is not the first time Hale, who also often uses McPherson for her last name, has been arrested for credit card abuse. Recently, KSST News posted a story shared by eparisnews.com regarding her arrest in Lamar County (see story here).
Tatum said this is a mother-son team working together. Hale is in Hopkins County jail. Her bond has been set at $20,000. Gilreath is in Hopkins County jail charged with three counts of theft of a firearm. Each firearm stolen is a felony. Bonds are set at $20,000 for each charge. He is also charged with violation of parole.
The recovered weapon at Lake Sulphur Springs was located by Texas Game Warden divers. The search for the weapons began Monday (see story here).
