Apprehended Fugitive Didn’t Want to Go to Prison

Joseph Thomas Tucker, 46, appeared for sentencing at Hopkins County Courthouse 8th Judicial District Court Wednesday. He was to be sentenced on charges for possession of a controlled substance over 200 grams but less than 400 grams. Tucker decided not to wait.   A 59-year old Sulphur Springs man and a 52-year old Talco woman were placed under arrest after 134 grams of methamphetamine and $3400 in cash were found in the car they were in. They were stopped for a traffic violation at the 112 mile marker near Cumby on eastbound I-30 at around 8 a.m. Wednesday. Rockdale Road north of the Interstate in Sulphur Springs is expected to be unavailable for through traffic for three weeks during improvement work on the road. City Manager Marc Maxwell said work will take place between Industrial Drive and Camp Streets. Residents along the street will be affected but some access will be available to them. One Vehicle Rollover Accident Claims Life of North Hopkins Student

A 16-year old North Hopkins student, Jose Tapia, died Friday as the result of a one vehicle rollover accident on County Road 4782, according to Justice of the Peace B. J. Teer.
