NETBIO Hosts Two Sales to Start 2018

The Northeast Texas Beef Improvement Organization, in cooperation with the Sulphur Springs Livestock Commission, will host two big NETBIO sales events to kick off 2018.

Pre-conditioned calves and yearlings will be offered at the Jan. 17 and Feb. 21 NETBIO sales.

The first of the new year will be the regularly scheduled NETBIO Pre-Conditioned Stocker/Feeder Calf Sale on Wednesday, January 17. The second 2018 sale will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 21, the newest addition to the NETBIO annual sale schedule. Both sales will begin on 1 p.m. and will be held at the Sulphur Springs Livestock Auction.

The second sale, slated for Feb. 21, has been added to the NETBIO schedule due to the increased demand from organization members wanting to sell their pre-conditioned calves and yearlings.

The consignment book on the January 17 sale was closed before the end of the year after registering nearly 8,000 head for sale.

“We want to accommodate all of the producers who have pre-conditioned cattle ready for the NETBIO sale,” said Sulphur Springs Livestock co-owner David Fowler.

Producers have already consigned more than 2,000 head for the February sale. The consignment book for that sale will remain open and producers are urged to consign their cattle and schedule their delivery as early as possible. Just call the Livestock Sale office for ear tags and scheduling.

Fowler and co-owner Joe Don Pogue are expecting the demand to be good for the cattle selling at these two winter months.

Like all the NETBIO sales, these two sales will be broadcast on the Internet and the Sulphur Springs Livestock Auction will be accepting bids at LMA Auctions.com. Internet buyers should register in advance in order to bid.

For more information on these sales, call 903-885-2455 or visit their Web Site at www.sslivestockauctions.com.

Kendal Scudder, Democrat candidate for Texas State Senate District 2, introduced Beto O’Rourke, a three-term congressman from El Paso, and Democrat candidate for the U. S. Senate Seat held by Republican Ted Cruz. It has been more than two decades since a Democrat has won a statewide election in Texas. However, O’Rourke, who is taking no PAC or special interest monies, is seeking to change that fact.O’Rourke’s visit to Hopkins County came as a surprise to local Democrats.

In a poll conducted this week, Cruz has an 18-point margin over O’Rourke if the election were conducted now. O’Rourke is making a whirlwind tour of Texas counties as his first step to introduce himself across the state. O’Rourke said his fight is to do the most necessary—jobs, health care, immigration, or “taking back our democracy” so that people and not corporations are represented. He stated 10,000 people have signed up to volunteer for his campaign.

Wildcat, Lady Cat Coaches Comment on Tuesday Games

Cipoletta on Wildcats Win at Marshall

Wildcats Basketball Coach Clark Cipoletta called Tuesday night’s 50-28 victory at Marshall an interesting game. It was a low scoring game and Coach Cipoletta said Marshall tried to take the Wildcats out of their element by holding the ball and trying to keep the score low. He said he was proud of the Wildcats for staying focused and for getting the job done. The Wildcats’ defense limited the Mavericks to only ten points after the first two quarters. Coach Cipoletta said holding a team to just an average of 5 points a quarter means you are having a lot of success. He said the Wildcats have emphasized defense all season long. Coach Cipoletta said it has made the Wildcats who they are and it has also been a big part of the success the Wildcats are having. He said they need to keep it up. The Wildcats have seen their first two district opponents slow down the game attempting to keep the score low. Coach Cipoletta said he was okay with that. He said that approach limits an opponents’ number of offensive possessions and he added the Wildcats are hard to score against. Coach Cipoletta said his team was versatile and could play either at a fast or slow pace. He said the team does a good job preparing for anything they might face. Coach Cipoletta liked the fact that the Wildcats got scoring from six different players Tuesday night. He said multiple players who can score make the Wildcats harder to guard. Coach Cipoletta was especially pleased to see Jeremiah Roland contribute coming off the bench. Roland scored 8 points. Coach Cipoletta said Roland came off the bench red hot and hit two three-point baskets. The Wildcats host Texas High in Wildcats Gym Friday night.

Chapman on Lady Cats Win Over Marshall

Coaches like it when a concept developed in practice is applied during a game. Lady Cats Basketball Coach Jeff Chapman was a happy coach Tuesday after the Lady Cats 71-27 win at home against Marshall. He said the Lady Cats have been working on their shooting in practice. Coach Chapman said he was especially pleased with the Lady Cats’ outside shooting Tueday night. The Lady Cats hit 9 three-pointers and hit 53% from behind the 3-point arc. Sadavia Porter hit 4 three-pointers, Danielle Godbolt and Imani Taylor hit 2 apiece and Te’Arria Rose made 1. The Lady Cats also shot 54% from the field. Coach Chapman said he also asked Godbolt to pick up her play. She responded with a 10 point game. Coach Chapman said he was also seeing Kaylee Jefferson, Sadavia Porter and Autumn Tanton especially staying after practice to work on their games. He said the three veteran players seem to really want to be a part of a three-peat district championship this season. The Lady Cats were district champs the past two seasons. The Lady Cats travel to Texas High Friday night.
