Fort Worth Stock Show A Success for Como-Pickton FFA

The first weekend of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo saw success for the Como-Pickton FFA. Caden Anglin won the winter yearling class  in the Junior Brown Swiss Dairy Show with Berretta, a Brown Swiss heifer bred by Overstreet Farms of Chillicothe, Texas. This was Caden’s first time participating in a stock show. Animal of the Week: Buster Brown

Buster Brown is a 1-2 year old lab mix who was brought to the Animal Shelter December 28, 2015, after a woman found him living around her parents’ house. “He was just a stray at her parents’ house and they brought him in because they didn’t want him bothering the parents,” Animal Shelter Officer Barbi Blanch said. Trinity Harvest Church Begins New Project

Trinity Harvest Church of God, 1150 Shannon Rd, has begun a new project within the past few months. Behind the existing building a Family Life Event Center is being constructed. The new building will contain a youth and children center, in addition to a fellowship hall. Once construction is finished the center will be available for community events as well. Weather permitting, the event center is predicted to be finished some time this year.

Lavern and Shirley are a bonded pair similar to last week’s featured animals. Lavern is a Pit mix and Shirley is an Aussie mix. Both range in 1-3 years of age, have tested heart-worm negative, and are not yet spayed. They were found together at the Pilot station and brought to the Animal Shelter shortly after Christmas. SS Elementary School Without Electricity Most of The School Day

by Allison Bledsoe On Thursday, after a morning accident on Lee Street, Sulphur Springs Elementary School was without electricity or phone service for several hours during the school day. Sulphur Springs ISD sent out emails and phone calls to parents notifying them of the outage. Children remained at school and were kept in rooms and areas with windows. The school’s cafeteria had already begun cooking lunch and had no outstanding struggles with finishing meals due to majority of the stoves being gas powered. The temperature throughout...
