Next week will be a very busy one for Hopkins County Judge Robert Newsom. As of January 1, the county’s two Justices of the Peace, B.J. Teer in Precinct 1 and Brad Cummings in Precinct 2, are new to the job. Both will be in job-related school next week. “Updated” Capital Murder Cases to Cost County Hundreds of Thousands
Hopkins County will have to pick up the costs of attorneys for one of two men indicted for capital murder in what are expected to be a death penalty cases. County Judge Robert Newsom said an insurance policy would pay for attorneys for Cody Scott Shaw of Emory. The policy will not cover co-defendant Patrick Wayne McMahan of Sulphur Springs. “Updated” County Jail Project Update
Walls are going up at the site of the new Hopkins County Jail project. Recent rains have slowed things down and County Judge Robert Newsom says the project is now 17 days behind schedule. By mid-January, Judge Newsom says the contractor hopes to have all the concrete poured. The judge says plans still call for prisoners to be moved in next October. Mike Pribble Honored by the Hopkins County Commissioners Court
Some day soon a plaque will be put up at the Hopkins County Equine Pavilion honoring the memory of Mike Pribble, a famous trick roper on horseback. Pribble hosted a July 4 rodeo for many years in an area where the Equine Pavilion now sits. Monday at Commissioners Court, a proclamation will be read featuring language that will be on the plaque.
