Civic Center Auditorium Lease Update

The Hopkins County Commissioners Court and the Sulphur Springs School Board have reached an agreement concerning the Civic Center Auditorium. Both approved the contract Monday at separate meetings. The school district will spend around $2.5-million to renovate the Auditorium in exchange for a 25-year lease. The start of renovation work won’t be until July 1, 2015. In Hopkins County 8th District Court, a 31-year old Sulphur Springs man, David Penny, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for continuous aggravated sexual assault of a child.
