New Jail Serves as Hostel For the Night
A prisoner transport passing through Hopkins County profited from the new accommodations at the Hopkins County jail. Approximately 13 were housed overnight locally Thursday night. The prisoner transport vehicle broke down in the county. With a jail capacity of 192, the additional prisoners did not move the facility toward non-compliance with jail standards. Numbers had been an issue with the old jail building.
The hosted prisioners moved on toward their destination Friday.
Going to Disney World ?

In response to the travel offer to “tag along” with the SSHS Football teams that are going to Orlando, several families and fans made the call to sign up and confirm their trip. Today’s deadline to make a deposit of $200 per traveler proved to be very desirable for Wildcat fans. KSST News spoke with Jamie Lunt, the coordinator for the trip and she said dozens signed up in the last two days bringing the total to well over 200 athletes, coaches, cheerleaders, family and fans that will make the trip to Orlando. This obviously does not take into account all of the fans who decide to book their travel on their own and still attend the game.
The “tag along” package offered by KSA Events gave family and fans a unique opportunity to travel with the team and stay at the same resort as well as enjoying meals and other events with the team. Although the deadline is today, Friday January 29th, when talking with Jamie Lunt, she expressed that she would be working late tonight to get all of the fans that wanted in on the package a chance to call in and reserve. Her number is (800)813-7193 and her extension is 3109. One package offered was for a lesser price but did NOT include airfare. Details of all of the options can be found here: Tag Along Package
This will certainly be a unique experience for all of those involved.
“Updated” Arrests Now Total Seven in ATV Thefts; Two Arrested Friday

David Rockwell

Brian Wheeler
Two more arrests for organized crime were made Friday as the number climbs to seven (7) individuals involved in the theft of utility, all-terrain vehicles in three states. Booked into Hopkins County Jail and placed on $50,000 bond was Brian Wheeler, 41. Also arrested was a David Rockwell, 34. Rockwell was placed on $200,000 bond Saturday morning by Justice of the Peace B. J. Teer.
Hopkins County Criminal investigators, Sulphur Springs Police Department Detectives, and Investigator Tony Hurley have been working since last November with others to round up what is thought to be a ring of some 20 or 21 individuals plying their trade of theft in Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas. The group took six (6) all-terrain vehicles from the local Nor-Tex Tractor. At least 13 vehicles have been recovered and more are expected.
Others who have been arrested include Ricardo Saldivar, 34, of Combine Texas, who was arrested in Seagoville; James Lindy Minter, 37, Joshua Christopher Terry, 34, and Laronda Kaye Reed, 29, all of Kemp; and Darrell Wayne Waites from Rapides Parish Louisiana. All have been charged locally with organized criminal activity.
