The Wildcats managed to stay close to the Hawks for most of the first half. Replacing Food Ordinance on City Council Agenda
Sulphur Springs City Council will discuss and set rates for a number of budget items and will hear the first reading of Ordinance 2693 amending and replacing the Food and Food Establishment ordinance for the city during their Tuesday, September 6th Council meeting.
City Manager Marc Maxwell told KSST News that the new food establishment ordinance will give enforcement more teeth. The need for a stronger ordinance stems from an issue several months old. Maxwell said the new ordinance has nothing to do with a sign posted in the window of a now empty building that once housed a restaurant in downtown Sulphur Springs. That establishment’s issues were not as great at the issues that fostered the need for a stronger ordinance, The issue that generated the replacement ordinance was food temperature . A restaurant not in the downtown district was not keeping certain meats at the correct temperature. They were sighted for the infraction and corrected the issue for two days. They then returned to their previous error. Maxwell said the ordinance will allow the city to shut down a restaurant if and when necessary.
In other action the city hear first readings on ordinances for water and sewer rates and the final discussion of tax rates, budget appropriations, and other budgetary items.

Brashear News
Whoa that rain was nice? We had 1.4 inches of rain. Unexpected blessing.
Do you have army worms? I heard they were bad in Hunt County and my neighbor, Mike Moore, told me yesterday he had to spray his pastures for worms. We loved watching the plane fly over. Hope they haven’t made their appearance in your pastures. Hoping for second cutting with all of this rain.
Wildcat Day in Florida. Hope all is well with the hurricane making landfall last night. Take care and show them how it is done in Texas. Love the Wildcats!
Have had several people ask, “how’s the garden?” Tom has been picking about 4 pints of okra a day and babying his few tomato plants and pepper plants. By babying, I mean watering and praying for results. We did get one pepper this week. We shall see.
I am so sorry that I have not posted any Brashear News in a few weeks. It has been pretty quiet out here in God’s country. School starting is about all the news I had. Do want to thank our Precinct 1 Road crew for the mowing job. You did good.
Friday morning and I guess this is all I have to report. Please call me at 903.612.8806; email me at [email protected]; or drop by CR 1119 for a visit. Would love to share your news with the rest of our community. “It takes a village” is a new saying I have been hearing a lot lately on that note it takes your help to get the news out. Thanks.

Well, week number two of the school year has already flown by. I talked to a few of the teachers and administrators after the first week and everyone said that things seemed to be going well. Enrollment is still holding at over 300 students and the district is now in need of a second Kindergarten teacher. We currently have two Pre-K classes but now we have 29 Kindergarten students enrolled and will have to split the class. If you know of anyone qualified for the job please tell them to contact Mrs. Fox, the elementary principal.
My cousin, Hunter Darrow, that recently graduated from lineman college starts his new job at Farmers Electric Cooperative on Tuesday, Sept. 6. I’m proud he was able to get a job close to home.
Another reminder about MG PTO’s Glow Run on Saturday, Oct. 8. For more information check out Miller Grove PTO’s Facebook page or contact Stacie Wilbur.

Wildcats Begin Friday Game Day with Pep Rally
With light rain falling outside, the Wildcat football team, coaches, cheerleaders, parents, and fans celebrated all that is Wildcat in a 8 a.m. pep rally in the Pacific Room at the Dolphin Hotel at Epcot Center Disney World Friday morning. The event featured coaches dancing, cheers, and a variety of family fun activities prior to breakfast. (see slideshow below)
Coach Greg Owens told KSST News, present for the event with special permission from KSA Events and the Dolphin Hotel, that the team is ready for the game. With four games scheduled on the playing field at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports, he is hoping rain will not delay the start of tonight’s game. The local forecast calls for the rain to end mid to late afternoon today. Defensive Coordinator Triston Abron, who along with Coach Johnny McSheffrey exhibited his dancing abilities during the pep rally, said his squad will have their hands full with some old fashioned offensive sets for the opposition.
A large number of family and fans were present for breakfast along with the opposing team and their contingency.
