Sulphur Springs Woman Accused Of Stealing Meat From Main Street Store
A 33-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was accused Tuesday afternoon of stealing meat from a Main Street store.

Shelby Jo Williamson allegedly concealed two packages of meat in her purse and walked out of the grocery store without paying for the food. A manager at Cash Saver reportedly followed the woman out of the store. He told her to come back in with the stolen meat, Sulphur Springs Police Officer Sean Hoffman noted in arrest reports.
She complied by taking the meat out of her purse and put it in shopping cart near the front door, according to arrest reports.
Officers took Williamson into custody at 1:01 p.m. Jan. 28 for theft. A records check showed the woman to be wanted on a driving while license invalid. She also had several previous convictions for theft, resulting in the charge being enhanced to a felony, Hoffman alleged in arrest reports.
Williamson was released from the county jail Wednesday morning, Jan. 29. Bond on the theft charge was set at $5,000, according to jail reports.

Lady Cats Soccer Team Sees Defensive Mistakes Turn Into Goals In 5-2 Loss At Pleasant Grove
Often in soccer, defensive miscues result in goals for the opposition. That was the case for the Lady Cats Soccer Team Tuesday night, January 28, as Pleasant Grove took advantage of Lady Cats defensive mistakes to take a 5-2 win at home.

Lady Cats Coach Javier Aguayo said the Lady Cats made two defensive mistakes in the first half. The Lady Hawks quickly scored two more goals to start the second half.
Then, the Lady Cats looked like they might mount a comeback. Lady Cat freshman Rebekah Stanley scored a goal on a free kick about half way through the second half. About 10 minutes later, Ashley Noe scored for the Lady Cats on a goal assisted by Stanley.
The Lady Cats faint hopes of a further comeback were dashed by a fifth Pleasant Grove goal, again after a Lady Cat defensive mistake.
Coach Aguayo said the Lady Cats can’t have that many mistakes in a game and try to come back in the last 15 minutes of the game.
The Lady Cats season record is now 3-5-1. The Lady Cats play a non-district game at Wylie East Friday night.

SSHS Band Director Spencer Emmert Comments on All-Region Concert and Winter Guard Competition
Wildcat Band Director Spencer Emmert said Sulphur Springs was one of two schools that sent so many students to the All-Region Band Clinic and Concert over the weekend (January 17-18) that they had to use a bus to get students to Mount Pleasant. 19 Wildcat Band members qualified for All-Region Band in competition back in December. Emmert said clinicians at the Mount Pleasant event were Phillip L. Clements, Director of Bands and Instrumental Activity at Texas A&M-Commerce, and Robert Vetter, Retired Band Director for the Robinson ISD near Waco. Emmert said it was a great experience for his students and he added the All-Region Band put on a great performance Saturday afternoon. During regional competition in December, six Wildcat students qualified for Area competition held in early January.

Emmert also commented on the very first competition for the Wildcat Winter Guard held this past weekend at Arlington Martin High School. Winter Guard members are those Color Guard students who carry flags and rifles and also dance during fall band performances on football fields. The Wildcat Winter Guard finished third out of 14 groups. Emmert said the weekend competition was the first of many to be held at Metroplex locations such as Justin Northwest, Red Oak, Flour Mound Marcus and Denton. Emmert said the competition assures that Sulphur Springs can keep up with others that utilize it.
Emmert said the next big thing for the band would be UIL Solos and Ensembles competition coming up next week at First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs. 40 SSHS band students will be involved. Students who memorize their music and make a grade of first division qualify for state. Also on the calendar for the band is UIL Concert and Sight Reading competition on March 31 for the Wildcat Concert Band and April 1 for the Wildcat Wind Ensemble.
