Lady Cats Basketball Coach Brittney Tisdell Enjoyed Lady Cats Road Win at Lindale Friday

Lady Cats Basketball Coach Brittney Tisdell told her team not to be affected by officials’ calls Friday evening (January 31). On KSST Radio and Cable Ch. 18’s Saturday Morning Coaches Show, Coach Tisdell said the Lady Cats did not complain about calls in the game despite her players getting hammered inside the paint. After a halftime lead, the Lady Cats gave up 11 third quarter points to Lindale but the Lady Cats scored 15. Lady Cats’ freshman Kenzie Willis missed the first Lindale game (a 60-38 Lady Cats’ loss at home) due to injury. Friday night Willis scored 20 points. Coach Tisdell called her a difference maker. She said 6-foot-3 sophomore Hannah Cordell and other Lady Cats did such a good job on defense inside the paint that the Lady Eagles were forced to take outside shots. Coach Tisdell said Cordell did a good job guarding a very good Lindale post player. Coach Tisdell also had praise for junior Bre’Asia Ivery, senior Kate Womack, junior Nylah Lindley and freshman Addisyn Wall. The Lady Cats are tied for the fourth and last playoff spot with Lindale after Friday night. The Greenville Lady Lions are one game back. There are three district games left. The Lady Cats host Greenville Tuesday evening.

Wildcats Basketball Coach Clark Cipoletta Pleased With Win at Lindale Friday

Wildcats Basketball Coach Clark Cipoletta Pleased With Win at Lindale Friday

Wildcats Basketball Coach Clark Cipoletta pronounced himself as pleased with the Wildcats, 67-41 win at Lindale Friday night (January 31). The win kept the Wildcats, ranked #8 in the state this week, tied for first place in district with Mount Pleasant. Both have 4-1 records halfway through district play. The Wildcats season record is 22-7. Coach Cipoletta said his Wildcats executed on both ends of the court Friday and played well as a team. He said the Wildcats also had to make some adjustments on the fly. The game stayed close for about a quarter and a half before a Wildcats run into halftime that continued on into the second half. Coach Cipoletta said early the Wildcats just had to stay persistent with their attack. For another game, the Wildcats utilized a balanced attack to get the win. Lindale began play defending Day Day Hall one on one and Hall got off to a great start in the first quarter. Coach Cipoletta said the Eagles tried to take Grayson McClure out of the game and that opened up things for his cousin Boo Wilkerson. Lamodrick Johnson put in some points and then Cameron Kahn had a big third quarter. Coach Cipoletta said the Wildcats met team goals for assists, rebounding and defensive efficiency. In most cases, a coach might be worried about the Wildcats looking past an opponent to this Friday game at Mount Pleasant. However it would be hard to suggest that the Wildcats might look past Greenville at home on Tuesday night. The Lions gave the Wildcats their only district loss back on January 17. Expect another highly competitive game in a rocking gym Tuesday night.

Deaths Of SH 19 Residents Ruled Murder/Suicide

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office Monday afternoon officially ruled the deaths of Joe Dan and Melinda Edmonson at their State Highway 19 north residence to be a murder/suicide.

Deputies were dispatched to the residence near Birthright about 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31, to a report from a family member that the woman had been found, and was cold to the touch. Officials received a second call from the residence about 6 minutes after the first requesting assistance for an unknown medical emergency, according to sheriff’s reports. Sheriff Lewis Tatum Saturday morning said both had apparent gunshot wounds.

“Once deputies arrived on scene, it was believed that a homicide/suicide had occurred at the location. The sheriff’s office conducted a comprehensive investigation that included an autopsy by Dallas County Medical Examiners Office. The result of that investigation confirmed a murder/suicide had occurred. Evidence shows 54-year-old Joe Dan Edmonson took the life of his wife, 48-year-old Melinda Edmonson, before taking his own. Our prayers are with the family,” a press release from HCSO Sheriff Lewis Tatum’s office stated.

CTE courses and programs provide integrated programs that can lead to industry-recognized credentials to help bridge the skills gap for qualified professionals business leaders report in healthcare, energy, advanced manufacturing and information technology business leaders have been reporting, according to Sellers.

“Ensuring that employers have access to a qualified workforce is a crucial step in ensuring productivity among the business and industry communities as well as continued American economic growth and global competitiveness,” the mayor read from the proclamation.

Sellers urges “all citizens to become familiar with the services and benefits offered by the Career and Technology Education Programs to this community and to support and participate in these programs to enhance individual skills and productivity.”

Arledge asked students involved in various student career and technical organizations, including Business Professionals of America, Future Farmers of America, Health Occupations Students of America, National Technical Honor Society and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America members to stand or raise their hand to be recognized.

“Congratulation. If you’re not involved in a career and technical education program, whatever CTE course that you’re in and you’re coming from today, you have that opportunity to get involved, and I encourage you to do that. That’s going to give you that workplace skills that are going to be competitive in a competitive nature that you get to go and travel and you get to go and compete in different career path areas that are relevant to what you are following as a career,” Arledge said.
