Total major crimes were down in 2014 in Hopkins County. The total of 167 was the lowest number since at least 2000. The matter that makes Sheriff Butch Adams happy is the 84.4% clearance rate for major crimes with lots of stolen items also returned to victims. The total Hopkins County inmate population was at 102 early Wednesday morning. A whopping total of 25 inmates were being housed at county expense in Franklin County. Sheriff Butch Adams told County Judge Robert Newsom the large number was necessary due to an inmate knocking out a window in the Hopkins County Jail a few days ago.
