Hopkins County officials broke ground for the $16-million 192-bed County Jail project Monday. County Judge Robert Newsom stressed that the project was under budget. Sulphur Springs Mayor Freddie Taylor said he hoped the new jail would be a deterrent to crime. Former County Judge Chris Brown talked about the importance of 20 meetings all over the county where officials stressed the need for a new facility. Sheriff Butch Adams thanked all those that voted for the project adding the county had to do something. Sedalco Construction President Tom Kader said his company was committed to finishing the jail by October next year ahead of schedule and under budget. He said it was not their first rodeo having worked with DRG Architects on several other jails.
