Total major crimes were down in 2014 in Hopkins County. The total of 167 was the lowest number since at least 2000. The matter that makes Sheriff Butch Adams happy is the 84.4% clearance rate for major crimes with lots of stolen items also returned to victims. Only 2007 in recent years showed a slightly better clearance rate. There was one homicide last year and it was cleared by arrest.
