Cement Truck Rolls Near DPS
A cement truck rolled off the service road onto its side in front of the Texas Department of Public Safety building just past Best Western today November 10, 2015. First response was on the scene and traffic was reduced to one lane. An Ambulance was on scene but it is unclear if anyone was hurt.
Another Charge and Bond Increased for Organic Farmer Arrested for Indecency With A Child
Now, another charge has been added–Continuous Sexual Assault of a child under the age of 14-years. Justice of the Peace Brad Cummings set the bond for that charge at $200,000. Now Richard Allen Hinds is in Hopkins County jail under two charges and a total of $250,000 in bonds.
After initially setting bond at $35,000 Justice of the Peace Brad Cummings increased the amount to $50,00 for Richard Allen Hinds, 70, who was arrested by Hopkins County Sheriff’s officers Monday for Indecency with a child by sexual contact . Hinds owns and operates HindsFeet Farm, “a small family farm committed to growing high quality, healthy pasture finished beef, pork, poultry, and lamb” in northwestern Hopkins County, according to the website.
JP Cummings increased the bond after learning there are 12 children that resided at HindsFeet Farm.
The arrest report states that Hinds fondled and kissed his pre-teen child’s breast and admitted further assaults, at least two other times, on his other children in Plano, Collin County.
Justice of the Peace Brad Cummings not only set Hinds bond but will also require him to wear a GPS monitor if released.
Winnsboro Police Arrest Four November 2-8
Four arrests, one minor accident, 153 calls for service, and issuing 38 citations and 54 warnings occupied the resources of the Winnsboro Police Department during the seven day period from Monday, November 2 to Sunday November 8.
On Tuesday the 3rd, Paul White, 50, of Arlington, was arrested on a Wood County warrant.
Wednesday found Augustus Seabolt, 42, arrested on a Franklin County warrant.
Wood County warrants caught up with Wilbert Coston, 50, of Winnsboro, on Friday.
Unlawful carrying of a weapon caused the Saturday arrest of Christopher Blystone, 39, of Winnsboro.
Also during the week, an 18-wheeler hit some tree limbs and snapped a cable line in the 400 block of Blackjack.
Meadows Receives Maximum Penalties
November 9, 2015 – Jonathan Heath Meadows agreed to plead guilty to one count of possession of a controlled substance under one (1) gram, two (2) counts of evading arrest with a motor vehicle, and two (2) counts of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance under four (4) grams, and to waive his right to appeal. In exchange, the District Attorney’s office agreed to have any sentences handed out by a jury to run concurrent and not be stacked.
Monday, November 9th, a Hopkins County Jury heard testimony in the penalty phase of the trial in 8th Judicial District Court. They began deliberation around 4:15 p.m. The jury took approximately one hour before sentencing Meadow to the maximum sentence for each count. Two state jail terms for the possession of a controlled substance, 10 years each for evading arrest with a vehicle, and 20 years each for delivery of methamphetamine. Meadows will serve 20 years imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Following sentencing, Meadows was taken into custody and placed in Hopkins County jail to begin his sentence.
Pink Snow Cone Stand Will Live On Despite Relocation
The Pink Snow Cone Stand on Gilmer Street will be relocating after construction began recently on a Schlotzky’s chain restaurant in Windsor Plaza. The Pink Snow Cone Stand will be relocating tomorrow November 10, 2015 to an unreleased location. It will continue business next year, marking 22 years of snow cones in Sulphur Springs, Texas.
North Hopkins Panther Cross Country Team 14th in State Meet
North Hopkins boys finished 14th at the Class 2A State Cross Country Meet Saturday. Their top finisher was Javier Rojo who came in 30th place.
SSHS Ag Students Place at State Fair
Four Sulphur Springs High School Ag students showed animal projects during the State Fair of Texas. Josh Couch received 5th and 11th place in the Hereford Division, Jacob Counch got 3rd and 9th place in the Beefmaster Division. In Lambs, Reese Ragan won 9th place in Medium Wool Cross Market Lamb Wether and Caleb Lewis took 16th place in Heavy Weight Medium Wool Cross Market Lamb Wether.
In Ag Mechanics, Kris Nottingham got a blue ribbon for building a shop table. Hunter Stonaker received a blue ribbon, Class Winner and Reserve Division Champion for a 32-foot goose neck float.
Sulphur Springs Youth Football Team Plays in Super Bowl Saturday
Sulphur Springs Youth Football Combined 1st & 2nd Grade football team has fought its way through playoffs & semi-finals, and will be playing the Brownsboro Bears in the SUPER BOWL this coming Saturday at 10am in Quitman. Brandy Runyan, mom to #32 and #34, along with all team members and parents invite the community to come out and support/cheer these brave boys onto a Super Bowl Victory!
