Opal Pauline (Johnson) Normandeau

A graveside service for Opal Pauline (Johnson) Normandeau, 56, of Sulphur Springs, will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 12 P.M. at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery. Honoray pallbearers will be Marrow Johnson, Dakota Patton, Raythan Hodges and Adam Johnson. Opal passed away in her home on Sunday, April 26, 2026 peacefully with her husband and two fur babies present.

Opal was born on August 24,1969 in Terrell, Texas to Melrose and Betty (Thornburgh) Johnson. She came from a large family with 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Opal married her husband, David Normandeau, on February 3, 1991 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Opal worked various jobs around town but her important job was providing a loving and safe home to whomever needed it. She took in and helped raise a little boy named Gary and a little girl named Melissa, among others. She loved to create crafts for the community and was devoted to her faith.

Opal is survived by her husband, David Normandeau; brothers, Ernest Johnson (Freida), Ed Johnson; nephews, Marrow Johnson, Dewayne Johnson; great-nephews; Adam Johnson, Michael McCrary, Raythan Hodges and a great-niece Karen Hodges; and “Niece” and caregiver, Dionna Burchfield, and numerous cousins.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Billy Wayne Johnson, Gary Johnson; sisters, Frances Sue Johnson, Gladys White, Billie Johnson.

The Family requests that donations may be made to The American Cancer Society or a favorite charity, in lieu of flowers.
