Tesla Owner Already Discovers Charger

Thursday afternoon, KSST News found a Tesla owner charging his auto at the Super Station provided by the Tesla Company in Sulphur Springs.  Ron, a Dallas attorney, was excited to discover the Tesla Super Station in Sulphur Springs.

Needing to drive from Dallas to Texarkana for a business trip, he checke his route earlier in the week and thought that he would have to divert his route to I-20 through Lindale to catch the closest charging station.  But, to his surprise, when he started his trip and entered the destination into the car’s GPS, the Sulphur Springs charging station popped up shortening his route to and from Texarkana.

“I am glad to have Sulphur Springs on my route now when I travel this direction from Dallas,” He said.  “I even drove around the square before I pulled in for a charge, the square has really improved!”  A very “green” car owner, Ron and his wife own the Tesla (all electric) as well as a hybrid vehicle.  He believes that Sulphur Springs will become a very popular stop for Tesla owners.  He noted that restaurants within walking distance will benefit from the location of the charging station.

Animal Of The Week: Checkers

Animal of the week- checkers

Checkers is a male 3 month old Domestic Longhair Kitten. Due to medical reasons, Checkers is an abnormally smaller size than most cats. While he is playful with other animals he has had minimal interaction making him shy around strangers. “He has been with an individual before, but they gave him up and now he is here,” Animal Shelter Barbie Blanch said.

Officer Blanch recommends that anyone who wishes to adopt him that he needs to be an indoor cat since his small size relieves him to protect himself like other cats.

An off side adoption will take place at Tractor Supply this Saturday July 2 for 11-4 p.m, but Checkers and other cats will not be present. Officer Blanch said that due to the heat cats can’t withstand the heat as well as dogs. For this reason the cats will stay at the shelter.

Diversified Storage Systems Continues Shipping Operations

Diversified Storage Systems Continues Shipping Operations

Diversified ProductsDiversified Storage Systems, located on 46 HC Pioneer Parkway in Sulphur Springs, has been operating in Sulphur Springs since January of 2016 at their 50,000 sq.ft. location. The business was started in 1998 in California with Diversified Minerals until customers began speaking of a lack of proper storage units for their product. “The other side of the business is Diversified Minerals, which is a company that makes specialty powders and minerals,” DSS Vice President Tim Dollison said. “Customers would make up specialty powders and and would say ‘I would use that, but I don’t have a silo to put it in’. A lot of time, the customers do not have a spare silo to add an additional product to their line. So we bought some silos and would rent them to customers as long as they bought the powder from Diversified Minerals. That just led to us slowly making our own units which turned into its own company.”

DSS moved to its Sulphur Springs location for its location near the center of the continental U.S., allowing them to be able to ship and rent their equipment along I-30 to both the East and West Coast. They also ship their equipment to buyers outside of the U.S., including Europe and other parts of North and South America. “All of the equipment is shipped out via outside service,” Vice President Dollison said. “It’s either shipped on a flatbed or it is pulled, because a lot of our products are set up on trailers. That’s all done through a broker, and trucking is done externally. The equipment is all made from scratch here, so we do both fabrication and and electrical to complete the units.”

DSS has a partnership with Redneck Trailer where they purchase parts for their equipment. The Miscellaneous Metalwork industrial business, which operates within the Fabricated Metal Products sector, earns an estimated $183,500 in annual revenues.  The business specializes in Portable Silos, Terminal Silos, Run at Mine Process Silos, Blending Operations, Supersack Unloading Systems, Batching Systems, Blowers, Conveyors, Dust Collectors, Augers, Scale Systems with Controllers, Electrical Controls and more. They currently employ 13 workers, but plan to hire more in the future. “We’re really just now ramping up the production, and once we get going, we’ll probably go up to 25 or 30 and more from there,” Vice President Dollison said. “It just depends on exactly how busy we get.”

DSS has sponsored community events in the past, such as most recent Dinner Bell event, and will sponsor another Dinner Bell event in September. Vice President Dollison says that DSS plans to get more involved in the community as their business continues to see success. Currently, the Sulphur Springs location is completing landscaping around the exterior, putting the finishing touches on the building.  President Jim Price and his employees at DSS are proud members of the American Welding Society.

Chapa Sentenced to Five Years in TDCJ

Chapa Sentenced to Five Years in TDCJ

chappaThursday morning in Eighth Judicial District Court, Juan Octavio Chapa’s probation was revoked and he was sentenced to five (5) years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He was set for sentencing last week but his name on his passport and ID cards was Francisco Renteria, which created a delay.

Using a different name, Juan Octavio Chapa, 45, was found in Davidson County Jail in Nashville, Tennessee under the name Francisco Renteria-Escamilla. His fingerprints placed on the national data base for wanted felons by Hopkins County Sheriff’s Communication Administrator Ron Lowrie enabled the find.

Chapa was wanted in Hopkins County for a 2004 case that involved a traffic stop which found him in possession of over 50 lbs but less than 2000 lbs of marijuana. Chapa failed to appear for a court date and a warrant for his arrest was issued. He had been held in Webb County Jail on a charge there and a hold had been placed on him by Hopkins County at that time. However the Webb County Jail released Chapa in error.

Fireworks Safety; County Fire Chief Endsley has Volunteer’s Heart

Fireworks Safety; County Fire Chief Endsley has Volunteer’s Heart

IMG_20160630_103334

Hopkins County Fire Chief Andy Endsley visited the KSST Good Morning Show with Enola Gay during his first week on duty. He talked about fireworks safety for the Fourth of July weekend. With over 30 inches of rainfall during the first half of 2016, and with moderate conditions so far this summer, no burn bans have been placed for Hopkins  County.  He believes that may mean more fireworks in the hands of citizens this holiday. According to Chief Endsley, here are some safety tips and information.

*Contact your local officials for rules and regulations on legal fireworks.

*Make sure an adult is present during fireworks use. Children should not handle fireworks.

*Do not drink alcohol before shooting off fireworks.

*Read the directions and warnings on individual products.

*Use fireworks on a hard, level surface, and in a clear, open area. Never shoot them indoors. Shoot fireworks away from homes and flammable materials. Avoid shooting them where there is dry grass or brush.

*Do not point or throw fireworks at people or animals.

*Have a garden hose, bucket of water or other water source available for emergencies.

*Purchase fireworks only from a licensed and approved dealer.

*As a general rule, it is legal to shoot fireworks during the period that fireworks stands remain open before and during a holiday.

*Remember, it is a violation of City of Sulphur Springs ordinance for individuals to shoot fireworks inside the city limits. Residents in the county may shoot fireworks when safety precautions are observed.

Chief Andy Endsley started out as a volunteer fireman in his home community near Atlanta, Texas and was later hired by that city’s fire department. Ten years ago, he moved to Hopkins County when he married Becky Ringler, and at that time he became a volunteer for the Brinker Volunteer Fire Department.  Today as Fire Chief, he offices inside the Intermodal Facility on old Texas Street along with Fire Marshall Mike Matthews. He noted that when the Intermodal Facility was built, it was situated in an excellent, centralized location, making the department able to get fire trucks onto roadways quickly to any section of the county. Hopkins County Fire Department co-ordinates with Sulphur Springs Fire Department and with eleven Volunteer fire departments: Cumby, Miller Grove, Arbala, Saltillo, Brinker, Como, Pine Forest, Sulphur Bluff, Tira, North Hopkins and South Sulphur (formerly Peerless). Chief Endsley says that almost all the Volunteer units need more volunteers. Volunteering is a great start to a career path for young persons and is a satisfying way for men and women to volunteer. Also, donating funds to the Volunteer units is a great way to help. There are always needs that a working unit must have funds on hand for; for example, one tire for a fire truck can cost over $500. If you’d like more information on volunteering, you may reach him at 903-951-8096.

TxDOT Announces Projects on Roads in Hopkins and Hunt Counties

TxDOT Announces Projects on Roads in Hopkins and Hunt Counties

CDM Holdings LLC will begin seal coating several roads in Hunt and Hopkins Counties starting the week of July 7. This work is part of a district-wide project scheduled this summer at an estimated cost of more than $8.4 million. Some work times and locations may overlap, and traffic control measures may include some one-way operation during construction. Motorists traveling in Hunt and Hopkins Counties in July should pay special attention to all traffic control devices and flaggers, and slow down when they encounter work on area roads.

Affected roads and projected work dates in Hopkins County include FM 499 from the Hunt-Hopkins County line to Interstate Highway 30, July 18; FM 275 from Interstate Highway 30 to FM 1567, July 19; and FM 1567 from FM 2560 to State Highway 11, July 20.

Affected roads and projected work dates in Hunt County will include FM 35 from the Rockwall-Hunt County line to State Highway 276, July 7; FM 1903 from FM 36 to State Highway 34, July 8; FM 36 from FM 2194 to US 380, July 11; FM 1564 from State Highway 34 to US 69, July 12-13; FM 2947 from FM 2101 to US 69, July 13-14; and Spur 264 from State Highway 276 to State Highway 34, July 15.

“This is preventative maintenance that is critical to seal out moisture and prevent damage to the pavement, as well as preserve our investment in these roadways,” said Tommy Henderson, TxDOT area engineer based in Greenville, Texas. “Provisions have been included in the highway contract to keep through traffic delays to a minimum, and access to adjacent properties will be maintained during this project.”

People traveling along roadways receiving a seal coat should slow down and be aware of construction activity. Motorists should not drive through an area where asphalt has been applied, but rock has not yet been placed. There will be some loose rock along roadways as well, and motorists should be prepared to stop for short durations while the work is in progress.

TxDOT officials will announce other seal coat locations across the Paris District as soon as the construction calendar is finalized.
