TxDOT Announces Projects on Roads in Hopkins and Hunt Counties

CDM Holdings LLC will begin seal coating several roads in Hunt and Hopkins Counties starting the week of July 7. This work is part of a district-wide project scheduled this summer at an estimated cost of more than $8.4 million. Some work times and locations may overlap, and traffic control measures may include some one-way operation during construction. Motorists traveling in Hunt and Hopkins Counties in July should pay special attention to all traffic control devices and flaggers, and slow down when they encounter work on area roads.

Affected roads and projected work dates in Hopkins County include FM 499 from the Hunt-Hopkins County line to Interstate Highway 30, July 18; FM 275 from Interstate Highway 30 to FM 1567, July 19; and FM 1567 from FM 2560 to State Highway 11, July 20.

Affected roads and projected work dates in Hunt County will include FM 35 from the Rockwall-Hunt County line to State Highway 276, July 7; FM 1903 from FM 36 to State Highway 34, July 8; FM 36 from FM 2194 to US 380, July 11; FM 1564 from State Highway 34 to US 69, July 12-13; FM 2947 from FM 2101 to US 69, July 13-14; and Spur 264 from State Highway 276 to State Highway 34, July 15.

“This is preventative maintenance that is critical to seal out moisture and prevent damage to the pavement, as well as preserve our investment in these roadways,” said Tommy Henderson, TxDOT area engineer based in Greenville, Texas. “Provisions have been included in the highway contract to keep through traffic delays to a minimum, and access to adjacent properties will be maintained during this project.”

People traveling along roadways receiving a seal coat should slow down and be aware of construction activity. Motorists should not drive through an area where asphalt has been applied, but rock has not yet been placed. There will be some loose rock along roadways as well, and motorists should be prepared to stop for short durations while the work is in progress.

TxDOT officials will announce other seal coat locations across the Paris District as soon as the construction calendar is finalized.
