“Princesses and Tiaras” Theme Announced For Daddy Daughter Dance

The Northeast Texas Children’s Museum has announced “Princesses and Tiaras” as the theme for the 2017 Daddy Daughter Dance. Every young lady dreams of  being a princess and wearing a tiara, so the Daddy Daughter Dance of 2017 will make that dream come true for each girl attending. The event will be Saturday, February 4 from 6:30 to 9:00.

The 2017 Daddy Daughter Dance will introduce a new disc jockey, Bryan Beezley of Beezley  DJ Services. He will be accompanied by his own daughter Casey. Casey will be a part of the dance floor as she encourages young girls to dance. Sometimes the encouragement will be for the dad, granddad, uncle or brother to join them on the dance floor.

Each young girl will receive a tiara that she can personalize with additional jewels. Other “princess” crafts will be available. Additional activities will be focused on making every young girl feel like a princess. The popular Balloon Lady will make another appearance as she uses her craft for making special balloons. Photos will be available for purchase.

Another new addition will be Kathy Erwin, a former caterer. She will work to provide food just right for a princess and her escort. The Thalians Culture Club will again sponsor the food. Guests should expect a new menu for the 2017 Daddy Daughter Dance.

“It is exciting for us to see the continuing enthusiasm for this event. It is so fun for us to do!”, said Sharline Freeman, Executive Director. ” Beckey Thompson does an amazing job of decorating the Children’s Museum for this event.  She has new ideas for this year’s dance floor.”

Discounted tickets are now on sell at the Northeast Texas Children’s Museum and can be purchased by calling 903-886-6055. Tickets purchased before January 23rd are $30 for each girl and her escort; tickets purchased between January 23rd and February 4th are $35. On February 4, the day of the event, tickets will be $40 for each couple. Additional young girls will be $10 each. Thanks to generous donors, scholarships are available for the event.

NETBIO Sale Largest So Far

NETBIO Sale Largest So Far

DEMAND GOOD
Buyers and sellers filled the house at the NETBIO Pre-conditioned Calf and Yearling Sale Wednesday held at the Sulphur Springs Livestock Auction. Tommy Long and Ron Stanley (l-r front) were among the crowd where bidding was active and 7,716 head of cattle were sold.

Setting records has become a tradition for the NETBIO (Northeast Texas Beef Improvement Organization) Pre-conditioned Calf and Yearling sale — and the January sale was no different despite the rainy, wet and cold conditions.

The sale, held Wednesday at the Sulphur Springs Livestock Commission, was the largest January sale in NETBIO’s nearly 20-year history, with producers selling 7,716 head of cattle.

“It was a very good sale and there were a lot of good conditioned grazing cattle that went through the ring,” said Livestock Commission co-owner David Fowler. “Despite the wet, cool weather, things went well and our employees did a great job working through the weather conditions.”

Fowler said the cattle held up good through the wet conditions. The demand for the cattle was good, and replacements were in high demand.

A total of 308 sellers brought cattle to the market center for the sale, and 44 buyers purchased the cattle at an average of $770.70 per head.

“We had several feedlot buyers at the sale and bidding, and buying, was very active over the Internet,” Fowler said. “We want to thank the buyers and sellers for their efforts and dedication to the NETBIO Sale, Fowler added.

With the January NETBIO sale now in the record books, the March sale is already looming large. Fowler said consignments are already coming in for the March 15 pre-conditioned sale.

“If producers have cattle they are planning to sell in it, they should get ear tags now,” Fowler said. “We had to close the books on the January sale quite early, and that may be the case for March.”

Cattle to be offered in the March sale should be weaned by January 29 and deadline for the last booster is February 13.

Consigners can call the Sulphur Springs Livestock Commission at 903-885-2455 to get their tags and consignment sheets for cattle they want to enter in the sale.

QUALITY CATTLE A lot of good conditioned grazing cattle were offered at the January NETBIO Pre-conditioned Calf and Yearling Sale Wednesday.

The sale begins at 1 p.m. and buyers, sellers and guests are always invited to come early, eat lunch in the café and look over the cattle before the sale.

Coaches Pleased With Continuing Improvement

WILDCATS BASKETBALL

Wildcats Basketball Coach Clark Cipoletta saw lots of signs that his team used last Friday’s loss to Mt. Pleasant as a learning experience moving forward. He said the team hopefully either wins or learns from a loss. Tuesday night the Wildcats won at Greenville, 84-54. Coach Cipoletta said his team played really well on both sides of the ball. He said the Wildcats executed on offense a lot better Tuesday than they did Friday. Coach Cipoletta said his team returned to their average of around 8 made three-point baskets per game. He said the Wildcats also had 22 assists. They average about 20 per game but were well short of that in last Friday’s loss. Ke’Ontae Dunn had 14 big assists along with his 14 points against the Lions. Coach Cipoletta said the team did a good job of sharing the ball and of getting everybody involved. He was also glad to see four double figure scorers. Along with Dunn, Victor Iwuakor and Keaston Willis had 18 points and Michael Jefferson had 14 points. Coach Cipoletta said with multiple double digit scorers, the team is harder to defend. It also fits right in with the team motto of The Team Over Everything. He said the team also played real hard, like they had a chip on their shoulder due to Friday’s loss. Coach Cipoletta said the loss revealed some things that needed improving. With the win over Greenville, the Wildcats are now 4-1 in district play and they are in second place. They play Hallsville, in third place at 3-2 in district, Friday night in Wildcats Gym. The game will mark the end of the first half of district play. Coach Cipoletta said the Bobcats were well coached and he added they play hard. He said he is very impressed with the shooting of the Bobcats Blaine Parker.

LADY CATS BASKETBALL

Lady Cats Basketball Coach Jeff Chapman said his team got off to a very good start against Greenville in Tuesday’s 75-33 win until some foul trouble slowed down the Lady Cats a bit. Coach Chapman said he actually enjoyed the second half more than the first half. He said he talked to the team at halftime about motivation. Coach Chapman told them motivation should come from within and not just from another team challenging them. He said some players decide before a game if an opponent is good or not. Coach Chapman said he wants his team to just come out and play and not worry about whether the opponent is good or bad. He said he is beginning to have good feelings about this year’s team and their potential to stir things up in the playoffs. Autumn Tanton scored 24 points Tuesday against Greenville. Coach Chapman said she is beginning to do a lot of things the Lady Cats are working on in practice. He added Tanton has an uncanny ability to get in position for offensive rebounds and then make put backs. Coach Chapman said her continued improvement would help the Lady Cats tremendously. He also praised senior Tori Moore for her extra practice work. Moore has become a force by driving to the basket and hitting layups. Moore had 13 points Tuesday. The Lady Cats play at Hallsville Friday night. The Lady Bobcats are 2-5 in district play and they will be trying to improve their district standing with a win at home.
