The KSST Nice People Award Winners Represent the Best in Hopkins County
People often say that Hopkins County is made up of the nicest people! Well, that’s proven every year on KSST during Valentine’s season when nice people nominate other nice people they know for special recognition and a box of chocolates. Walgreen’s was (again!) this year’s candy sponsor of a dozen boxes of Russell Stover candy. Those who nominated winners got the pleasure of presenting the candy. Thanks for tuning in to this heartwarming tradition, it’s all about good things going on in Hopkins County!

The Wildcats’ tennis team played in their second tournament of the season last Friday at Kilgore. Tennis Coach Tony Martinez said it was a tough tournament featuring good teams such as Nacogdoches, All Saints and Whitehouse.
He said the boys doubles team of Alex Benitez and Jonah Kirkpatrick finished in sixth place in A Division play. Another boys doubles team of Jordan Gonzales and Logan Shumacher finished in fifth place in B Division play. Coach Martinez added some boys singles players and girls players also did well. He said he only had four girls to take to Kilgore due to illness.

Wildcat Baseball Able to Scrimmage Royce City Despite Weather Conditions
Wildcats Baseball Coach Jerrod Hammack can hardly believe that his team got a scrimmage in Tuesday evening at Royse City. He said he expected a call from the Royse City coach early Tuesday afternoon saying it was too wet to play. It never came. The coach did call to say he thought they could get in the scrimmage. Coach Hammack said it rained on the Wildcats’ bus all the way to Royse City. He expected to get a call en route canceling the scrimmage but again it never came. Coach Hammack said it was foggy, misty and cold in Royse City when they arrived. He said they were able to get in 7 or 8 innings. Coach Hammack said some innings were stopped if a pitcher hit a pitch limit.
Coach Hammack threw five pitchers. Tyler Armstrong, Jaxon Chaney, Ryan Humphries and Triston McCormick who pitched in a Sherman scrimmage threw again Tuesday. Coach Hammack also had a chance to watch Kaden Argenbright pitch. Coach Hammack said he struck out two and got another batter on a weak ground ball in one impressive inning of work. Coach Hammack said Royse City probably only got about 3 hits all night. He added some pitchers put too many on base with walks or hit batters.
Coach Hammack said Wildcats’ batters got to face a variety of pitchers. The Bulldogs threw a different pitcher every inning. The Wildcats have their final scrimmage scheduled at their new field Saturday at 1 p.m. Rain is in the forecast. Coach Hammack said the Wildcats would probably play next at their season opening Tyler tournament next week on Thursday.
