Wildcats Defeat Pirates; Host Marshall Friday

Wildcats Soccer Coach Nicky Wiggins got what he was looking for out of his Wildcats Monday night at Pine Tree as the Wildcats left with a 1-0 district win over the Pirates. It was a good way for the Wildcats to start the second half of district play. The Wildcats are now 3-4 in district play.

Coach Wiggins said it is always tough playing at Pine Tree. He said the Wildcats played hard and he added the match was more intense than usual. The Wildcats scored just before the game was 7 minutes old. Alexis Escobedo scored the goal after an assist from Enrique Arellano on a corner kick. Then the Wildcats protected the lead against the high tempo attack of the Pirates. Coach Wiggins said he was pleased with how organized the Wildcats defense was. He said, not wanting to be too passive, the Wildcats talked at halftime about continuing to attack. Coach Wiggins said both teams hit the post in the second half.

He said Jonathan Lopez was good in the goal. Coach Wiggins also praised the play of the Wildcats back defensive line: Brandon Diosdado, Christian Huff and D.J. Abron. The Wildcats now play Marshall at Prim Stadium Friday night. In the first half of district play, the Wildcats won at Marshall, 2-0 in overtime.

Coach Wiggins said if the Wildcats continue to play like they did Monday night, they will be okay.
