Sulphur Springs ISD Board of Trustees Meet Monday
Sulphur Springs School Board meets in a February regular session Monday, February 11, 2019, at 6 p.m. in the Library at Sulphur Springs High School.
I. CALL TO ORDER: Invocation Pledges led by High School CTE students
II. FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS: Announcement by the President whether a quorum is present, that the meeting had been duly called and that the notice of the meeting had been posted in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code, Chapter 551. Approval of the minutes of the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees conducted on Monday, January 14, 2019, beginning at 6:00 p.m., held in the Board Room of the Administration Building.

Wildcats 9-0 in District With One Game Remaining
The #4 ranked Wildcats’ basketball team remained unbeaten in district play with a 70-59 win at Royse City Friday night (February 8). The district champion and #1 district playoff seed Wildcats outscored Royse City over the first three quarters to take a 50-37 lead.
The Bulldogs managed to take only 2 points off the lead in the fourth quarter and the Wildcats had a solid win.

Sadaidriene Day Day Hall scored 20 points to lead the Wildcats.

Xavier Cork had 14 points and

Cameron Kahn scored 13 points.
Boo Wilkerson added 9 points. Grayson McClure scored 8 points. Jeremiah Roland scored 5 points. Lamodrick Johnson and Kai Taylor had 2 points apiece.
The Wildcats are 9-0 in district play and 23-8 for the season. The Wildcats complete district play Tuesday at Lindale at 7:30 p.m.
Soccer Results: Wildcats Win 4-0; Lady Cats Struggle in Second Half
Wildcats Soccer 4, Melissa 0

The Wildcats’ soccer team seems to be playing their best soccer of the season as district play approaches. In their final non-district game, the Wildcats controlled the ball and played with energy and confidence in a 4-0 win over Melissa on a chilly Friday night at Gerald Prim Stadium. Their defense was also rock solid. The Wildcats scored two goals in each half. Omar Hernandez opened the scoring with a goal at the 28:05 mark of the first half. Alejandro Diosdado made it 2-0 with a goal at 14:37. In the second half Diosdado scored again at 20:58 to make it 3-0. Aldredo Vargas make it 4-0 at 10:02 on a free kick into the net from quite an angle. The Wildcats season record is now 5-5-2. Over their last four matches they have won 3 and tied 1. The Wildcats open district play against Greenville at Gerald Prim Stadium Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
Melissa 6, Lady Cats Soccer 0
The Lady Cats’ soccer team hung with Melissa for the first half trailing only 1-0 at the break at Gerald Prim Stadium Friday night (February 8). The second half was a different story as the Lady Cardinals exploded for 5 goals to take a 6-0 win. Five of the goals were scored by Lucy Hurst. Peyton Wallace scored the other goal. Lady Cats goalkeeper McKenna Gammill kept the game from being a huge rout as she made 15 saves including one on a penalty kick. The Lady Cats had trouble possessing the ball and generating many offensive chances. The game was played in cold temperatures that started at 36 degrees with a chill factor of 30 degrees and got colder throughout the evening. The Lady Cats slip to 1-10-3 for the season. They open district play at Greenville Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
Lions Defeat Avery
The Saltillo Lions improved their district record to 8-1 with a 57-41 win over Avery Friday (February 8). The Lions outscored Avery in each of the first three quarters and coasted to a win.
Chris Boekhorst led the Lions with 21 points. Ben Moore had 13 points. Matthew Gurley scored 20 points. Andrew Redburn had 8 points. Edi Olayo and Levi Hoover scored 2 points each. The Lions are now 23-8 for the season.
The Lions play Union Hill next Tuesday at 6 p.m. on senior night.

TxDOT Prepares for Traffic Study at State Highway 19 and I-30; Area Projects Listed for February 11-16, 2019
This week TxDOT work in Hopkins County will include State Highway 19 at Interstate 30, watch for workers placing counters for an upcoming traffic study. State highway 154, from State Highway 11 to Loop 301, watch for survey crews as they begin marking locations for upcoming roadway surfacing operations.

In Delta County State Highway 24 expansion from Cooper southwestward towards Commerce continues. Watch for work zones and drive safely through construction areas while this roadway is being widened and improved. The inside southbound lane remains closed.
In Hunt County FM 2642 bridge/underpass project at I-30 from FM 1565 westward to the Hunt-Rockwall County line continues. Construction of bridge to route I-30 over FM2642 is in the final stages. Please continue watching your speed while traveling through this construction area. Temporary traffic signals are in place at FM 2453 and FM 35 to aid detoured traffic. US 69 from O’Neal St. in Greenville to the intersection of US 69 and US 380 continues. Work on this paving project is finishing up. Drivers should watch for crews seeding and performing some clean-up work on the shoulders. ADA ramp construction along SH 11 in Commerce is nearing completion. Workers have completed installing ramps, sidewalks, steps, curb ramps, handrails, pedestrian push buttons and other pedestrian elements to aid the mobility of disabled citizens. Project manager will conduct a final pre-inspection for project acceptance to follow soon after.
In Rains County, SH 19 pavement project from US 69 and SH 19 south to the Van Zandt County line is winding down. Crews have completed paving operations on the project. Final striping and rumble strips will be placed soon as weather permits. Additionally, mailbox installation and metal beam finishing work at some culverts is all that remains. Be cautious when driving across intersecting streets.
Basketball Game Day: Wildcats at Royse City
The #4 ranked Wildcats’ basketball team continues district play on this Friday game day (February 8) at Royse City. There will be a freshman game at 5 p.m. A JV contest is scheduled at 6:15 p.m. The varsity game will follow at around 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats are district champs with an 8-0 record after their come from behind win at Texas High Tuesday night. The Wildcats are 22-8 for the season. Royse City is in a battle for the district’s last two playoffs spots with Lindale and Mount Pleasant.
After the big emotional win at Texas High, one might wonder if the Wildcats might have less intensity in the Royse City contest Friday. Wildcats Basketball Coach Clark Cipoletta says the Wildcats don’t intend to let up Friday at Royse City or next Tuesday at Lindale. He says they will try and win their final two district games to get ready for the playoffs. One of the team’s season goals is to go 10-0 in district play. Coach Cipoletta says he talked with the team at practice Wednesday and told them not to be satisfied. He says the season goal was not just to win the district championship but to go 10-0. He compares the Wildcats season to writing a story. He says it’s turned out good so far but he wants the team to keep writing the story. Coach Cipoletta says the team has plans to make the story end in a very special way.

Game Day: Wildcat Tennis and Golf Play Despite Cold Weather
Despite the cold weather, there is tennis and golf action on this game day Friday (February 8).
The Wildcats’ tennis team is playing in a Paris tournament. Wildcats Tennis Coach Tony Martinez said the start of play was moved from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday. He said one thing helping was that there wasn’t much wind.
The Wildcats’ golf team is also playing at a tournament at Rockwall at the Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club. This is day one of a planned two day tournament. Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club will also be the site for the Regional Golf Tournament on April 24-25.

Cold Weather Cause of Cancellation of Softball and Baseball Scrimmages
Cold weather on this game day Friday (February 8) has resulted in the cancellation of both Lady Cats’ softball and Wildcats’ baseball scrimmages scheduled at home.
Thursday night Lady Cats Softball Coach David Carrillo announced that his scrimmage against North Lamar at Lady Cat Park Friday evening was canceled. The Lady Cats open the regular season Monday at 6 p.m. at Lady Cat Park ,weather permitting, against THESA, the Texas Homeschool Educators Sports Association softball team. This will be a varsity only contest.
Friday morning Wildcats Baseball Coach Jerrod Hammack sent word that the Wildcats Friday night scrimmage against Terrell at Wildcat Park was canceled due to the cold weather. The Wildcats still have two scrimmages on the schedule next week. They have one against Hallsville Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Wildcat Park and one at North Lamar next Friday at 6 p.m.
