Local dentist Danny Lawrence will join a dozen local dental professionals for a community “dentistry day” on Friday April 21. The free service is for anyone in need of filling, extraction or cleaning. Space is limited, however. Be sure and get on the sign-up sheet between 4-6pm on Thursday April 20 inside the Family Life Center of Davis Street Baptist Church. The Hopkins County Community Chest’s new program “ReachOut” will be at Como United Methodist Church this Friday from noon to 3pm.      Counselors travel to the rural sites in Hopkins County to offer the same services offered at the main office in Sulphur Springs. Services include help with bills: water, electric, propane and rent for low income households. Hygiene items, prescriptions,eye,and dental exams. The Annual Relay For Life Survivor Dinner is set for Saturday, April 22nd at 6 pm. Any Hopkins County cancer survivor or caregiver is invited to the League Street Church of Christ Fellowship Hall to celebrate and honor cancer survivors. The event includes dinner, entertainment, and fun free of charge. The 2017 Relay For Life will be held on May 12th with “Game Over Cancer” as the theme.

Hopkins County folks love outdoor cooking of all kinds. This includes the 300-year-old European tradition of cooking over coals in iron utensils called Dutch ovens. If you’ve ever attended a drive-thru Nativity at Christmastime, well, now there is a drive-thru Easter portrayal.  The idea was brought to Yantis First Baptist Church Pastor Craig Vance by a church member. In mapping out ideas for the depiction, it was decided that about ten different scenes would be needed to tell the life of Jesus from birth to ministry to death.
