Dirt work is continuing for the new Hopkins County Jail Project. Lots of things are being dug up including some leftovers from when the first jail was built on the site. The digging has also uncovered an area high in lead content and the site of an old oil spill. Wednesday will mark a change for the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Kelly Wiser will visit North Hopkins, his first school as DARE Officer, officially replacing Sgt. 80 Year Old Pickton Man Arrested
An 80-year old Pickton man faces multiple charges after he was arrested for threatening a convenience store clerk with a baseball bat and later struggling with a Sheriff’s deputy who was arresting him. Judge Newsom Discusses Out of Town Inmate Problem
Hopkins County Judge Robert Newsom says so far this year, the county has spent $209,000 to house inmates in jails outside the county. Judge Newsom says that figure is well over the amount budgeted for that purpose. He says that’s one of the reasons why a new jail is needed. Surprise At New Hopkins County Jail Site
Workers doing dirt work for the new Hopkins County Jail project north of the current jail unearthed a surprise recently. They found what appears to be a railroad spur that had been buried. Deputy Scott Makes Multiple Arrests Tuesday
Tuesday Hopkins County Sheriff’s deputy Joe Scott arrested a man for theft of a trailer and three people for stealing a pickup truck. Working on a tip, Deputy Scott found a stolen trailer in the 600 block of Whitworth Street. It had been stolen from the 200 block of Whitworth last Wednesday. Groundbreaking For New County Jail
Hopkins County officials broke ground for the $16-million 192-bed County Jail project Monday. County Judge Robert Newsom stressed that the project was under budget. Quinlan Man Arrested
A 28-year old Quinlan man who thought he had set up a tryst with a 15-year old girl on-line was arrested by Hopkins County Sheriff’s deputies at his home Wednesday. The 15-year girl he thought he was communicating with turned out to be a Sheriff’s deputy. Gary Allen Lovejoy was charged with on-line solicitation of a minor.
