Judge Newsom Discusses Out of Town Inmate Problem

Hopkins County Judge Robert Newsom says so far this year, the county has spent $209,000 to house inmates in jails outside the county. Judge Newsom says that figure is well over the amount budgeted for that purpose. He says that’s one of the reasons why a new jail is needed. Other counties charge Hopkins County $40 to $50 per inmate per day. Most inmates housed out of the county are females since the current jail has a small amount of space to house them.
