There were three categories of competitors: Dairy Festival contestants, the contestants parents, and the visiting balloon pilots. The Dairy Classic Sale, sponsored by the Northeast Texas Livestock Association, will be held Thursday, June 16 at the 1:o p.m. at the Sulphur Springs Livestock and Dairy Auction. This summer started off right with a week-long Liberty Of The Seas Cruise! I was really excited to see in person how big the ship was. I was sitting on the edge of my seat the whole way to the ship, just waiting to see how huge and luxurious it really was. I was able to scope out the ship at least two miles away it was so huge. Sunday night, June 12 saw heavy rainfall for the areas surrounding Sulphur Springs. Rocky Ridge saw 1.2 inches of rain in elevated areas while lower terrain saw 1.4 inches from rainfall. The community of Brashear saw an inch of rain throughout the late afternoon. Pickton saw 1 and (1\5) inches of rain with two inches recorded at the Hopkins\Franklin county line. The Texas State Championship Ice Cream Freeze Off, overseen by Chamber of Commerce President Meredith Caddell, is set for Saturday, June 11 at 4 p.m at the grounds of the Hopkins County Civic Center. This will be the 15th year of the annual competition as part of the Hopkins County Dairy Festival.   On Friday, June 10th several local media outlets were invited to fly over Sulphur Springs in hot air balloons! Six different balloons were inflated and sent up with pilots and a maximum of two passengers. KSST interns were sent up in “Spirit in the Sky”. The balloon was covered in beautiful colors that depicted birds, a large mask, a fish, and several other smaller creatures.   The Greenville and Hunt County YMCA is holding a summer camp program for kids ages 5-12 years old at the Sulphur Springs Elementary School. All day campers will participate in activities such as swimming, creative art projects, physical fitness, and the summer reading program.
