October 26, 2015 – Rainfall amounts varied in Hopkins County during the weekend deluge. At the water plant in Sulphur Springs, the official rainfall station, 8.88 inches of rain was captured. A resident near North Hopkins received just over 7 inches of rain. Stew Contest Set-Up Begins
Concession trailers are in place throughout Buford Park as preparations for Friday’s Hopkins County Stew Contest have begun. The forecast for October 23 is for a 100% chance of rain, but the Stew Contest is still scheduled. A flash flood watch is in effect for the region for late Thursday night through late Saturday night.

Rain is expected but that will not wash out the contest. The ground will soak up much of the rain quickly due to dry conditions according to event planners. Hopkins County Stew Site Renewal Underway
The Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce has mailed out letters to last year’s record number of stew cooks encouraging them to renew their stew sites for this year’s 46th annual contest on Saturday, October 24. Some cooks have already turned in their paperwork. Stew cooks have until September 18 to renew their sites.
