John Sellers Shares The History Of The Old U.S. Post Office Building

Sulphur Springs City Councilman John Sellers told the history of the old U.S. Post Office Building on its’ 100th birthday Tuesday as it was rededicated as the new City Hall. The site once was a wagon shop and then a blacksmith shop. The land was purchased by the nearby First Christian Church, who then sold it to the feds in 1909. Veterans’ Memorial Suffers Minor Damage

Some more minor damage has been done to several walls in the Veterans’ Memorial on Celebration Plaza in Sulphur Springs. The damage was discovered and was reported to the police department by a city official on Thursday just before 1 p.m. Several stones had letters and scratches lightly etched on them. The Hopkins County Commissioners Court will consider adopting two resolutions at their next meeting. County Judge Robert Newsom said one would support making sure there is enough good clean water for a growing Texas in the future. Update On Wastewater Treatment Plant

Sulphur Springs City Manager Marc Maxwell gave the City Council an update Tuesday night on the city’s stressed Wastewater Treatment Plant. He said a new filter was helping and added the plant was within allowable limits for total suspended solids last month. Maxwell said the plant was out of compliance for ammonia.
