Kevin Gibson is the President of NETLA, North East Texas Livestock Association, the ones that put on the annual Junior Market Livestock Show taking place at the Civic Center through Saturday. Gibson showed pigs and steers in his youth. He credits the show with helping him learn to manage money. Gibson said animal money bought him a truck and mostly paid for college.
Sulphur Springs Natives Arrested for Drugs
Two women and a man, all from Sulphur Springs, were arrested by the city and county Special Crimes Unit assisted by the Special Response Team, for possessing quite a bit of LSD, some cash and some marijuana. The lawmen executed a search warrant at an apartment complex in Sulphur Springs shortly after 8:30 p.m. Thursday. They suspected the three were involved in distribution and sale of the narcotics. The officers seized 87 units of LSD, some cash and a quantity of marijuana. A 10-year old child was also in the apartment and Child Protective Services took custody of her. An arrest report indicates all three suspects confessed to the crimes. 42-year old Melanie Ruth Hogan, 21-year old Joshua Robert Welborn and 39-year old Caryn Angela Welborn were charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and child endangerment before Justice of the Peace Brad Cummings who set bonds totaling $75,000 for each person.

Calhoun Held on U S Marshall Detainer in Gregg Co. Jail
Chad Calhoun, Senior Pastor at Lake Highland Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs, is being held on a U S Marshall Detainer in Gregg County without bond. Calhoun was arrested Thursday by Homeland Sec
urity Agents for possession of child pornography. Calhoun was recently indicted on charges by a federal grand jury. He was booked into the Longview jail, which serves as a holding facility for federal prisoners. The pastor was orignally investigated last summer and the investigation has been on-going. Months ago his computers were seized and examined by a forensics lab. Further forensics testing and use of a system that allows internet service companies to track customer usage of specific websites, emails, and other web activity were also utilized in the investigation. Several other individuals in various areas have also been arrested in the federal investigation.
Local law enforcement is warning that if one is viewing child pornography utilizing local internet services, they should either stop or leave town.
Family Effort at NETLA
Ashley, Angel, and Mariana Aguilar proudly pose with broiler chickens they all helped raise.
For 2 months they have been rising early each day to care for the birds. Through out the day, sometimes as frequently as every two hours, they make sure the birds are eating and doing well. The animals were fed Chicken Show Chow, with around 20 percent protein. The children are members of the North Hopkins 4-H Club.
All three enjoyed the project, and will participate next year. Angel has bigger plans for next year, a Black Headed Goat.
Grandpa Efrain Cortez has agreed to help prepare the chickens for the table.
Shadow Weighs In at NETLA
Shadow has scale anxiety. Nala Stowater, a member of the Hopkins County 4H Club says Shadow got his name because he is shy around other cattle, and is scared of his own shadow.
He was also a little shy about his weight, but is well above the required 1000 pounds.
Nala is almost certain She is ready for Shadow to find a new home. .. Let the bidding begin.
Albert is a True Hog
Albert the hog is for sale. All 264 pounds of him. He loves slop, oats, and Hog chow. His current owner, Tracey S. has cared for him since October of last year. Albert’s hams are good, and his back is firm. Let the bidding begin. 
Winnsboro Chamber of Commerce Banquet
Good BBQ, great music, and awards all around Thursday Night in Winnsboro, Tx. Music to open the festivities was provided by the Peckerwood Junction Band. Dinner music was done beautifully by Denise Marsoun on the piano. After dinner entertainment was provided by Tyler Lennius solo on a guitar. MC for the event was Joe Wayne Renolds who kept the evening moving ahead. The flag posting was done by Boy Scout Troup 180, Scoutmaster John Worth. All of the serving was done by employees from Morgan’s Mercy Mansion a faith based rehabilitation center for women.
Guest speaker Susan Morton, the recently appointed Superintendent of Schools for WISD, gave a rousing speech focusing on the positives of WISD.
Local business donated an incredible array of items, all of which sold to the highest bidder.
