Hazardous Weather Outlook for Thursday and Friday, May 10-11, 2017

The National Weather Service has posted a Hazardous Weather Outlook is for North and Central Texas.

Today and Tonight expect a few thunderstorms are possible this afternoon across the region. Lightning strikes will be the main hazards with any storms. A few storms could be strong and may approach severe limits this afternoon. The main hazards will be large hail and strong winds. Isolated to widely scattered storms will also be possible tonight, especially for areas west of a Temple to Terrell to Bonham line. Hail will be the main storm hazard.

A more appreciable threat for widespread thunderstorms is expected on Thursday and Thursday night as a dryline and cold front move across the region. As the capping inversion weakens, strong to severe storms capable of large hail and damaging winds are expected to develop, mainly east of a Gainesville to Granbury to Temple line during the afternoon hours. There will also be a risk for a tornado or two, especially if storms are able to remain discrete in nature. Towards the evening hours, storms should congeal into a line which will likely foster more of a damaging wind threat.

Thunderstorms may linger into the early morning hours on Friday morning across portions of East and Central TX. There will be chance for thunderstorms across parts of North and Central TX on Monday and Tuesday.

Wildcats Offense Gaining Momentum with Spring Drills

Wildcats Offense Gaining Momentum with Spring Drills

Wildcats Offense Coordinator Matt Young senses that his offense recently hit a little bit of a plateau during spring practice. The team has had nine workouts and had five more to go plus the May 19 Spring Game. Coach Young says about 90% or more of the offense for this season has been installed during the spring.

Young says the offense is currently in a grind phase where players have to make a decision to come out with the right attitude and not just go through the motions. After all, Coach Young says, football is an emotional game that needs to be played with enthusiasm. Monday was described as a lackluster day by Wildcats Football Coach Greg Owens. Coach Young says Tuesday was better. He says the emotion was better and thus improvements were made.

Coach Young said lineman Charley Maddux, a junior to be and a question mark coming into spring, has done a tremendous job. He is playing next to big offensive lineman Norris English. Coach Young says running backs continue to try and get the running game in a groove. Cor’Tavius Pruitt has been added to the mix with returners Colton Allen Searn Rodgers and Lawrence Worth.

With quarterback Ryan Humphries playing baseball, Coach Young says D’Corian Young has been learning a lot. He says Young is seeing a lot of things each day.

Coach Young says receivers continue to make plays. He says Landry Tyson had a good day Tuesday and Austin Dodd had a nice catch. He also mentioned Bryce McQueen, Pacen Edwards and Jace Thompson.

Coach Young says for the rest of spring the emphasis will be on things to clean up like route running and making plays when the opportunity arises. Coach Young says he is a big fan of spring practice. He says tons of question marks are being cleared up and he has a better idea of what he has. Coach Young says he knows a lot more now about offensive line depth and receivers who can play.

No More Lights at 19 and I-30

No More Lights at 19 and I-30

Although started a day later than announce, work has begun to install median curbs and islands on the north and south side of the State Highway 19/Hillcrest at I-30 intersection to help guide drivers as they travel through this interchange. Removal of the flashing caution lights was a first step.

This construction will sometimes require temporary lane closures. Flaggers will be on site to alert drivers to changing road conditions and to guide motorists through the area safely. TxDOT officials anticipate a two-week construction window for this project, weather permitting. With showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for Thursday, some work may be delayed.

Motorists are urged to use alternate travel routes whenever possible while this construction is underway. They should also be prepared to watch for and obey all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones. They should also plan for lane closures, and avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
