McDade Sentenced to 25 Years; Grant Sentenced to 2 Years
Two cases before Eighth Judicial District Court in Hopkins County resulted in sentencing the defendants to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Nathan Warren McDade was sentenced to 25 years in TDCJ. In June of this year, McDade violated probation on seven counts of Injury Child/Elderly/Disabled with Intent for the third time. He was originally arrested in Sept ember of 2014 and had served 1-year SAFPF as a part of his probation.
However, his mistake that led to the sentencing was committing a robbery in Cedar Hill, Texas, according to Matt Harris, Assistant District Attorney. Harris said Preston Harris with Target Loss Prevention and Jon Morrison, an officer with the Cedar Hill Police Department traveled to Hopkins County to testify in the hearing. The crucial evidence against McDade punctuated the length of the sentence.

Gracie Darlene Grant , 45, was sentenced to two years in TDCJ for Theft of Property, a state jail felony. The original indictment for theft of property more than $1,500 but less than $20,000 occurred in August, 2014. However, she violated probation in August, 2018.

Wildcats Face Forney Running Game Friday at Prim
Wildcats Football Coach Greg Owens said it was good to have the bye week when they did. Players got healthier and work was done. He said the team was playing so well he was almost persuaded that a bye might be been better later on.
With the bye, the Wildcats, coaches and players, have had enough of it and now want to play a game. Coach Owens said it’s almost like wanting to play that first game of the season.
Forney is another district opponent that mostly lives with a running game. In his keys to the game, Coach Owens singled out physicality, especially in offensive and defensive line battles. Coach Owens did say that Forney does throw the football better than either Terrell or Royse City. He said he was impressed with the Jackrabbits’ quarterback. Coach Owens said he showed savvy and he called him a competitive dude. He said Forney also has a running back who is deceptively fast.
On defense, Coach Owens said Forney has defensively linemen that wear skill player numbers and he said that’s a concern. He said they were the strength of the Jackrabbits’ defense adding they cause a lot of disruption. Coach Owens said the Wildcats are working to play at a slightly faster pace. He noted that Forney has a knack for causing turnovers and he wants the Wildcats to win the turnover battle.
Coach Owens called Corsicana, Ennis and Kaufman front runners in the district race because they all have a lot of speed. He said all the teams in the district are improving.

Wildcat Team Tennis Await Bi-District Opponent
Wildcats Tennis Coach Tony Martinez expected to know Wednesday morning who his team would face in bi-district playoffs. As it turned out, he will have another week to wait.
Coach Martinez said Hallsville edged past Whitehouse, 10-9 Tuesday. He had anticipated that Whitehouse would win the match. As a result, Whitehouse is now tied for second place with Jacksonville. The two teams play next Tuesday and Coach Martinez said the Wildcats will play whichever team wins the match.
Intrigue still remains in the Wildcats’ District 15-5A. Coach Martinez expected Lindale and Texas High to face each other Tuesday but he said the district’s top two two teams don’t play until next Tuesday. The Wildcats will be the district’s number three seed regardless.
Meanwhile Coach Martinez said the Wildcats continue to practice and prepare for the bi-district playoffs. He said the bi-district match is expected to take place on Tuesday, October 16, more than likely at a neutral site such as Van. Very early in the season the Wildcats played several District 16-5A teams. The Wildcats defeated John Tyler, Pine Tree and Marshall but lost to Hallsville and Jacksonville. Coach Martinez said those matches were played in early to mid-August. He said some Wildcats were missing due to summer vacation or paperwork that had not been completed at those early dates.

Nationwide Test of Wireless Emergency Alert System Set for Today at 1:18 p.m. Local Time
At 1:18 p.m. (local time) October 3rd, you will receive a Wireless Emergency Alert on your mobile phone if it is connected to wireless providers that participate in the WEA system. The alerts are free and the customer is not charged to receive WEA. One does not have to sign up to receive a WEA.
On October 3, 2018, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The test will be transmitted in English and Spanish including both audio and text messages. The EAS test should appear similar to nationwide tests in recent years to radio and television audiences. FEMA will also send a test Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) message to all mobile phones that are connected to wireless providers that participate in the WEA system. The FCC requires all wireless carriers that do not participate in WEA to notify their customers. Customers may also notify their carrier to determine the extent to which the carrier is offering Wireless Emergency Alerts. Wireless Emergency Alerts include Amber Alerts, Severe Weather Alerts, and others. The alerts are set to be geographically precise within the county or counties affected by the alert. The Nationwide WEA does not have to be a text. Many providers have chosen to transmit WEA’s using a technology that is separate and different from voice calls and SMS text messages.
The WEAs can be blocked. However, when Congress passed the WARN Act, they allowed participating carriers to offer subscribers the capability to block all WEA’s except those issued by the President.

The Pumpkin Patch at Shannon Oaks Church Open Each Saturday in October!

Eric Godwin, Pastor of Shannon Oaks Church and his son Evan stopped by the KSST Studios during the Good Morning Show to share some great news…the long-awaited Pumpkin Patch is about to open! In fact, it will be open to the public every Saturday in October from 10am until sunset. “We want the citizens and families of our area to come out and have a full share of wholesome Pumpkin Patch fun, games, activities. There’s about 3,000 pumpkins and gourds out there, so the color of the pumpkins and flowers really give it an inviting appeal. You can even bring a picnic and enjoy a meal together at the outdoor seating area. And, admission to the Pumpkin Patch is affordable, only $5 per person, ages 2 and up”.
As Evan Godwin explained, activities on the grounds include hayrides, a hay maze and a massive hay slide with at least four separate slides. There’s a newly-built dual-car barrel train for 12-14 persons which takes a looping course around the grounds. And there’s horse rides, too! You can put on “hamster wheel races” with friends in the three different human-sized hamster wheels. In the Pumpkin Patch, meet special scarecrows “Scare”, “Crow” and “Patches” in the Pumpkin Patch, and you can take part in a “Jack Attack”. According to Pastor Godwin, all the attractions were designed and constructed with an emphasis on safe fun by the church’ Pumpkin Patch design team. “There’s activities for all ages, young children through teen-agers and adults. There’s a concession stand, tree-shaded seating areas, open play areas and room to just stroll and enjoy the Autumn displays. And you can pick from a huge assortment of pumpkins and gourds for sale. There’s baking, carving, Jack o’Lantern and princess pumpkins, plus various interesting colors of gourds”. For photos and details, visit: facebook soc pumpkin patch
Pumpkin Patch is actually a church fundraiser, with this year’s yield earmarked for a twofold purpose; funding facility/grounds development and for global church partnerships. The initial year of Pumpkin Patch in 2017 was successful, with proceeds used to help retire the church debt. Pastor Godwin admits that Shannon Oaks is blessed with a congregation of people who love to help and who display a joy and willingness to share their talents and resources. “They can team together and take ownership of projects like this, which in turn bless God’s people and the community”.
