Wildcat Team Tennis Await Bi-District Opponent

Wildcats Tennis Coach Tony Martinez expected to know Wednesday morning who his team would face in bi-district playoffs. As it turned out, he will have another week to wait.

Coach Martinez said Hallsville edged past Whitehouse, 10-9 Tuesday. He had anticipated that Whitehouse would win the match. As a result, Whitehouse is now tied for second place with Jacksonville. The two teams play next Tuesday and Coach Martinez said the Wildcats will play whichever team wins the match.

Intrigue still remains in the Wildcats’ District 15-5A. Coach Martinez expected Lindale and Texas High to face each other Tuesday but he said the district’s top two two teams don’t play until next Tuesday. The Wildcats will be the district’s number three seed regardless.

Meanwhile Coach Martinez said the Wildcats continue to practice and prepare for the bi-district playoffs. He said the bi-district match is expected to take place on Tuesday, October 16, more than likely at a neutral site such as Van. Very early in the season the Wildcats played several District 16-5A teams. The Wildcats defeated John Tyler, Pine Tree and Marshall but lost to Hallsville and Jacksonville. Coach Martinez said those matches were played in early to mid-August. He said some Wildcats were missing due to summer vacation or paperwork that had not been completed at those early dates.
