Man Accused of Choking, Holding Teen Against Her Will

A 24-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested at 11:40 p.m. Thursday, at his West Industrial Drive residence, where he was accused of holding a 17-year-old against her will and choking her multiple times.
Sulphur Springs Police were dispatched at 11 p.m. July 25 to the 1500 block of West Industrial Drive, where an assault involving strangulation was alleged to have occurred. After learning the victim had fled to another location for help, they contacted her there.
Valle was accused of choking his girlfriend multiple times and of holding her in a bedroom at the residence against her will during an argument about a doctor’s appointment. The 17-year-old reportedly crawled out a bedroom window to get away from Valle to help, Sulphur Springs Police Cpl. Chris Rosamond noted in arrest reports.
The teen had “injuries consistent with strangulation,” and had “defensive contact injuries around her hands and fingers,” Rosamond alleged in reports. The young woman, who was reported to be pregnant, was transported to the hospital, according to arrest and offense reports.
Valle was contacted at his residence. He reportedly told officers the teen had a mental health disorder and had hit him in the face. He had a small scratch on his face, according to police reports.
A records check revealed warrants for his arrest for open container, no driver’s license and expired registration or license plates. Valle was taken into custody on all three warrants. He was also charged with family violence assault that impeded breathing.

Library’s Summer Reading Program is Wrapping Up

Librarian Hope Cain and her staff at the Sulphur Springs Public Library have enjoyed a ‘Pirates and Mermaids’ summer! That’s been the theme for the very popular reading program designed to encourage youngsters to read during summer vacation from school. It’s popularity is shown through the dozens of colored fish attached to the mural just inside the library entrance. Each of those fish represents an hour spent reading!

In the 2019 Summer Reading Program, young readers take the challenge to complete at least 8 hours of reading during the summer by logging their reading hours and turning in a log page after each book. Some youngsters read many more than 8 hours! Readers earn a prize after each log page is turned in, and the prizes increase in “coolness” as the program goes on. Now, with the wrap-up of SRP on July 30, the grand prize (a child’s ticket to Hawaiian Falls Water Park) awaits the winner!

Here is Hope’s invitation. “The end of summer reading program is near. We will have a costume contest during our last Story time Tuesday July 30 at 10:00am; kids should dress up as either a Mermaid or a Pirate. Mandy Fiock Photography will be here for photos with Ariel for A $5 donation to Shining Star Productions. Photos will be held at 9:30- 10:00 am, (before story time) and again at 10:30- 11 am. Wednesday July 31st will be the LAST DAY to turn in reading logs! See you at the Library!” There’s lots more going on all year round at Sulphur Springs Public Library for all ages. Murphy reported initiating a pursuit. The car reportedly continued through a field into an apartment complex parking lot, where it crashed into a parked vehicle.
Bystanders reportedly told Murphy that the driver had run south, back toward the nursing home. The man relayed the direction of travel and suspect description via radio to other officers.
Special Crimes Unit officers allegedly found the man attempting hide in vegetation behind the nursing home. Lt. While inventorying the car, police allegedly found a white substance believed to be cocaine in a plastic baggy in a Ritz cracker box.
