Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raiser’s Association Special Ranger Toney Hurley has arrested a man in connection with an aggravated theft by check case at Sulphur Springs Livestock Auction last year. 30-year-old Jacob Thompson of Louisiana was arrested by Hurley Friday in Oklahoma. Rabies in Hopkins County
After practicing veterinary medicine for more than forty years, Hopkins County vet J.D. Norris has finally seen his first case of rabies in a horse. The owner brought the horse in about three weeks ago thinking it had colic problems. Norris saw neurogical problems and knew it was worse than colic. Main Street Reopened
The 200 block of Main Street in Sulphur Springs has been reopened. All of the façade of the old Knights’ Head Inn at 219 Main has been removed after it developed cracks and bulges last week. City Manager Marc Maxwell says now a new façade will be designed and put up. The sidewalk in front of the building will continue to be blocked off until the new façade work is done. Women Hurt in Accident
An 86-year old woman from Dike was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Hopkins County Saturday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Lorene Foley. The accident occurred on Highway 19 North at FM 1537 at 4:17 p.m. Saturday. The DPS accident report indicates the victim was a passenger in a vehicle heading south on Highway 19. Demolition Started Again
A demolition crew began to dismantle the damaged façade of the old Knight’s Head Inn building at 219 Main Street Friday morning. They will remove the façade from top to bottom over the next day or so. Cracks and bulges developed in the façade and it appeared near collapse during façade renovation work taking place Tuesday afternoon. The next day the building was evaluated by a structural engineer.
