Burgers and Fries Donates $1400.00 to The Senior Citizens Center
Once again the wait-staff of Burgers and Fries, 208 College Street, have donated their tips received for service. The recipient of their $1400 donation is the Senior Citizens Center, 150 MLK Boulevard in Sulphur Springs. The donation will be used to pay for individuals who cannot pay for a meal at the center, according to Karon Weatherman, Program and Marketing Director for the Senior Center. Professional Ag Workers Association to Meet Thursday
The Professional Ag Workers Association is expected to take up this year’s Agriculturalist of the Year at a breakfast meeting this Thursday beginning at 6:30 a.m. in the Ag Workers Building on Connally Street. The Agriculturalist of the Year Award will be presented during the annual Chamber Banquet next month. The Ag Workers will also consider the awarding of the 2015 Ag Workers Scholarship during Thursday’s meeting.

Bright Star Baseball Will make a Presentation to the City Tuesday Night
A presentation by Bright Star Baseball concerning a proposed Bright Star League baseball field will be made to the Sulphur Springs City Council at a regular meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. in City Hall. The Bright Star Baseball League is for children with special needs. The council will also consider an interlocal agreement for cooperative purchasing between the city and the Region 8 Education Service Center.

SSPD Offers Free Rides on New Years
Once again this year, the Sulphur Springs Police Department is offering free rides home or to a hotel for those that feel they have had too much to drink on New Year’s Eve. Those wanting a ride are urged to call the police non-emergency number, 903 885-7602. Chief Jay Sanders says please do not call 911. Chief Sanders says the main goal in offering rides is to keep everyone safe.
Lamar Street to Get a Major Update
Sulphur Springs City Manager Marc Maxwell says work will begin Monday on the total rebuild of Lamar Street. Maxwell says the street will be getting a new sewer and water line and some drainage improvements and then will be rebuilt. He says the street is in bad shape due to so many sewer and water line repairs. A half-mile of street will be improved costing about $750,000. The work is expected to take six months.
