VFDs In Hopkins County Benefit From Community Fundraiser, CARES Act

Thursday was a big day for the volunteer fire departments in Hopkins County. All VFDs in Hopkins County benefitted from a community fundraiser and CARES Act funding. Jason Tully started a program to help raise funds for the county’s 11 VFDs who are even lower on funding than usual since many weren’t able to hold their usual fundraisers this year. Tully encouraged the community to make donations either at his insurance business...

Miller Grove News March 10, 2017

Weather has been improving and everything has started to green up.  The trees are starting to put on leaves, flowers are beginning to bloom, grass is getting thick and turning a bright green color, and the vegetables in the garden are starting to perk up.  The few rains we have received have done a world of good.  I was even proud to get to mow the yard the other day but I know that feeling will wear off as we move into summer....

by Brandon Darrow This past weekend I took a short trip to Nashville, TN.  The drive was long, but worth it.  I was thankful that the trip was safe and no delays in traffic.  I was glad to get to see Josh Turner on Friday night and Loretta Lynn on Saturday night.  Josh just barely made it on stage in time for his segment on the Ryman Auditorium stage.  He said his industrial freezer at home went out and he was having to move things...

I don’t know about you, but I have really enjoyed the spring-time weather we have been having.  It feels nice to leave the house in the mornings and not have to put on a jacket.  The days are getting longer and daylight savings time will be here next weekend – Sunday, March 13 to be exact.  Don’t forget to set your clocks forward one hour on the night of Mar. 12. Congratulations to all of the students who walked away making the...

Lots of news in the Grove this week.  MG FFA and the Volunteer Fire Department are my main focus for this writing. Wednesday night Miller Grove FFA students gathered at the Ag Shop for the annual Miller Grove International Show.  This was a warm-up for Saturday’s Northeast Texas Livestock Association show at the Civic Center in Sulphur Springs.  I wasn’t able to make it to theWednesday night but when I passed the school it looked like...

Spring is officially here and the monsoonal rains we have had lately have really been greening up the rye grass in and around The Grove.  I know we’re thinking, “Enough is enough” with the rain but I try not to complain since we have seen so many dry summers. Last Friday morning Gail Garmon, Lewis Watts, and I went to KSST radio station to be interviewed by Enola Gay Matthews about our upcoming historical marker dedication ceremony...

Cold weather and rain have been on most people’s minds lately. I’m not particularly fond of the cold weather but I know we do need the rain so I won’t complain. Lake Fork and Tawakoni are both still very low and need quite a bit of water to be restored to the water level that they once maintained. Received a note from Charles Bennett the other day with some information about our VFD. He said that at the organization’s regular business...
