The 25th Annual Independence Day Celebration Concert was held in Celebration Plaza in Sulphur Springs Saturday, July 2. The Concert was produced by the Sulphur Springs Symphony League and performed by the Northeast Texas Symphony Orchestra. The 25th Annual Independence Day Celebration Concert was held on Celebration Plaza in Sulphur Springs July 2, 2016. The concert was produced by the Sulphur Springs Symphony League, who presented the Northeast Texas Symphony Orchestra. Paris Junior College currently serves a five county area and has one of the smallest taxing districts in the state of Texas. The area Paris Junior College serves is approximately 3,848 square miles while their taxing district is approximately 44 square miles. Only 1.14% of Paris Junior College’s service area pays taxes in support of the college. Checkers is a male 3 month old Domestic Longhair Kitten. Due to medical reasons, Checkers is an abnormally smaller size than most cats. While he is playful with other animals he has had minimal interaction making him shy around strangers. “He has been with an individual before, but they gave him up and now he is here,” Animal Shelter Barbie Blanch said.   County Road 1170 is now open according to County Commissioner Precinct 1 Beth Wisenbaker. County Road 1170 in Precinct 1 of Hopkins County has been closed since June 20th due to heavy storms that hit the area and eroded the soil around two tank cars that are currently being used as a culvert. County Road 1170 is a heavily trafficked road and a vital part of the road network in southern Hopkins County.
