As ground was being tilled by equipment furnished by Precinct 4, work began on a county jail vegetable garden located on county land just outside the Sulphur Springs City limits. Hopkins County Sheriff-elect Lewis Tatum is seeking to save the cost of inmate meals by planting a garden that will provide vegetables for the meals. Veronica Arnold is the new Director of Food Service for SSISD. She succeeds Rikki Elliott who held the position for 41 years. Her first duty was the Summer Food Service, which is in full swing now. The SSISD Summer Food Service Program is a USDA-sponsored program administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
