Agrilife: Private Applicator Training Scheduled for October 12, 2016 in Sulphur Springs

A private pesticide applicator is someone who uses or supervises the use of restricted-use or state-limited-use pesticides or regulated herbicides to produce an agricultural commodity on:

  1. Personally owned property;

  3. Property owned by his or her employer;
  4. Property under his or her general control; or
  5. The property of another person if applied without compensation, other than the trading of personal services between producers of agricultural commodities.

An agricultural commodity is a plant or animal grown for sale, lease, barter, feed or human consumption and animals raised for farm or ranch work. No license is required to apply general-use pesticides to produce agricultural commodities. The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) has contracted with PSI Services (PSI) to administer exams for agricultural pesticide applicator licensing. This is the same vendor that administers exams for structural pest control licensing. When the Special Crimes Unit solved thirty-two car burglaries in the City of Sulphur Springs in June of this year, they contacted Child Protective Services to begin an investigation that ended Wednesday with the arrest of Maegan Deleyn Strawn, 21, of Sulphur Springs on a warrant for Injury to a Child with Intent Bodily Injury, a Felony 3.

At the time of the burglaries, Strawn was pregnant as she burglarized the vehicles walking along the streets of the city looking for unlocked autos. Strawn was also tested and proved positive.

Strawn is in Hopkins County Jail awaiting a magistrates hearing. She was charged on August 1st of this year with injury to a child, along with five charges for burglary of a vehicle.

Homecoming Foe Whitehouse Holds Edge in Rivalry

At his weekly media gathering Wednesday morning, Wildcats Football Coach Greg Owens said the Wildcats had a great team meeting Monday. A central message was that players need to focus on analyzing themselves to correct their mistakes and get better. Coach Owens said players were challenged including seniors who may have just seven games left to play.Homecoming was discussed along with the legacy of great Wildcats’ players of the past whose pictures are on display in the lobby of the Multipurpose Building. Coach Owens also said the Wildcats had really good workouts Monday and Tuesday. Concerning this Friday night’s opponent

Whitehouse, Coach Owens said they won’t be cutting the Wildcats any slack. He said they have a balanced offensive attack. They look to throw first but Coach Owens added they are also doing a good job running the football. They rotate in two senior quarterbacks. On defense, Coach Owens said their front seven are really good. He said the front four are comparable with the Seminole Ridge front that caused the Wildcats so many problems in Florida.

One of Coach Owens keys to the game is controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. He said the Wildcats need to do their assignments and take care of the football. Coach Owens said the Wildcats and Whitehouse rivalry has cooled down some from its’ red hot state of three or four years ago. The two teams had decided not to play each other this year until scheduling needs brought them back together on realignment day. It’s not lost on Coach Owens that he has not defeated a Coach Adam Cook coached Whitehouse team. Whitehouse has won five straight games in the series including an Area playoff game.

Coach Owens record against Whitehouse as Wildcats Head Coach is 5-7.
