Ramirez Sentenced to 15 Years Following Revocation Hearing for Sexual Assault

May 15, 2017 – Oscar David Ramirez was sentenced to 15 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice following a revocation of parole hearing Monday in Eighth Judicial District Court. Ramirez was set for trial for a Felony 2 Sexual Assault.

In February of this year, Oscar David Ramirez, 34, of Sulphur Springs, was arrested at his residence for violation of probation Sexual Assault and placed in Hopkins County jail. His bond was denied. Reasons for the violation of parole are unknown at this time.

On Thursday, July 23, 2015, in the Eighth Judicial District Courtroom of the Hopkins County Courthouse, Oscar David Ramirez was placed on 10 years deferred probation . Ramirez was arrested and booked into Hopkins County jail on September 4, 2014 charged with sexual assault after an 18-year old Sulphur Springs woman accused him of drugging her before the July 13, 2014 assault at a bar restaurant.

The woman told Sulphur Springs police at that time that Ramirez served her alcohol. The next thing she remembers is waking up with Ramirez having sex with her. She told him to stop and later was able to run for help. The investigation indicated there may be other victims.

Mayor Glass Proclaims May 14-20, 2017 Nursing Home Week in Sulphur Springs

The City of Sulphur Springs honored National Nursing Home Week Monday at 2 p.m. as Mayor Emily Glass read a proclamation declaring the Week, May 14 to 20, 2017. Mayor Glass noted the week at the urging of Arvis Tanton, owner of Carriage House Manor and the Cottages.

In the proclamation, Mayor Glass stated that “we honor and respect our elders and citizens of any age with physical or intellectual disabilities who reside in skilled nursing care centers in Sulphur Springs.”

The theme for the week is “The Spirit of America”. The mayor urges “…all citizens to visit a loved one, family member, or friend residing in any care setting and offer a kind work, a personal touch, and spend time participating in various activities to unite those from all walks of life in need of continuing love and support.”

Mayor Glass stated that her administration is committed to quality health care and embraces the essence of the week’s theme.

National Nursing Home Week Unites Residents, Staff  and Volunteers at Carriage House Manor

Local skilled nursing center demonstrates “Spirit of America” during events for annual observance

 

Sulphur Springs, TX – Carriage House Manor will host daily events as part of National Nursing Home Week (NNHW), which runs from May 14 to 20. This year’s national observance’s theme, “The Spirit of America”, highlights the bond among staff, volunteers and residents that captures the American spirit. The week’s events at Carriage House Manor will serve to encourage acts of kindness, generosity, and compassion in the center, and recognize those who have helped residents enjoy a better quality of life.

“We are grateful that so many individuals in our community are coming together to celebrate the work we do,” said Sharla Campbell, Assistant Administrator of Carriage House Manor. “This year, we are using the power of relationships, food, entertainment and music, which captures the unique spirit of Carriage House Manor.” Established by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) in 1967, NNHW provides an opportunity for residents and their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and surrounding communities to acknowledge the role of skilled nursing care centers in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Activities this week at Carriage House Manor include:

Early Sunday morning two armed men entered the Encono Lodge on East Industrial brandishing automatic pistols. They took $200 in the robbery. The two black males were wearing bandanas and hoodies. They left the area on foot, according to Detective David Gilmore with the Sulphur Springs Police Department. The Desk Clerk was not injured in the robbery.

Gilmore said he and other investigators with SSPD are working with Dallas area agencies as they follow various leads in the case.ksst ksstradio.com

Meth in His Shoe

A bag of marijuana and digital scales with methamphetamine residue was not all Robert Charles Mathews, 33, 0f Winnsboro had in his possession when stopped by a Hopkins County deputy on FM 3019 at CR 2396.

Mathews was nervous when stopped and was told to exit the vehicle. A pat down followed for the safety of the officer. When the contraband was found in the vehicle following consent to search, Mathews said he had nothing else in his possession. However, at the jail book-in, a baggie of meth was found in his shoe.

Matthews is in Hopkins County Jail charged with Tamper/Fabricate Evidence and with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 more than or equal to 1-gram. He is held on bonds totaling $15,000.

Meth, Black Tar Heroin Found in Como Traffic Stop

A Hopkins County Deputy attempted to stop Justin Dwayne Humphries, 23, of Sulphur Springs on Highway 11 in Como. However, Humphries made a quick turn onto Taylor Street to avoid the stop.

The deputy had attempted to stop the small passenger car that Humphries was driving for driving on the improved shoulder of the highway while headed eastbound on the state highway. After the turn onto Taylor Street, he stopped at a residence on Taylor and walked to the door of the house. The deputy approached and asked for his driver’s license. Humphries admitted his license was suspended. No information of insurance could be provided by the driver or by county dispatch in a state records check.  Humphries was placed in custody.

He stated he had nothing illegal in the vehicle. However, an inventory of the vehicle resulted in a bag of methamphetamine and a pipe. Also a clear baggie containing a black substance believed to be Black Tar Heroin was also found. The meth tested to 5.8-grams and the Heroin tested to just under 1-gram.

Humphries is in Hopkins County Jail Charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 less than 1-gram and Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 more than 4-grams but less than 200 grams. He is being held on bonds totaling $25,000.

Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest for Meth

Johnny Lee Speed, 35, of Pickton was stopped for a traffic violation and showed signs of nervousness. He gave consent to the deputy to search his vehicle on FM 3019 at CR 2381.

 In a brown wallet containing his social security card was a clear baggie containing suspected methamphetamine.

Speed was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 less than1-g—a state jail felony.

Flag Lowered to Half-Staff Honor Peace Officers Memorial Day Monday, May 15, 2017
On the morning of Monday, May 15 at 8 a.m.,the Hopkins County Detachment of the Marine Corps League will lower all flag at the Veterans Memorial to half-staff in Honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day. All Hopkins County Peace Officers have been invited to attend.
All Flags will be raised to full-staff  at 5:30 p.m. the same day.
