Mobile Mammography Coach Visits Sulphur Springs

Hunt County Regional Healthcare has their Mobile Mammography bus parked in the Spring Village Shopping Center in front of Dollar General today, June 22. They will be in Sulphur Springs until 3:00 pm. Similar to a blood-drive bus, this Mobile Mammography Coach is a portable way to check for breast cancer, and service the areas around Hunt County.

Amy Langley, and Leah Fouse

Leah Fouse, is the bus driver and also helps with registration/paperwork, said about the screening areas and the changing rooms; “We keep it private.” They have a curtain that they close to keep the patient separate from the waiting area. Fouse explained that Sulphur Springs usually isn’t as busy as other counties. They had 5 scheduled appointments today, and that was a lot more than usual.  Amy Langley is the qualified technician, who explained that other cities like Leonard and Quinlan have 21 or 30 visits scheduled.  They  really want to get the word out to the women of Sulphur Springs.

Women 35 or older need to receive a baseline mammogram and then annually after the age of 40. This is a quick 20 minute process available-and they take walk-ins!All insurances that are accepted at Hunt Regional are also accepted for the Mobile Mammography Coach, including Medicare and Medicaid. Most insurance companies cover the cost. They can also help with payment resources and grant money for uninsured/income-eligible women or those who choose to pay cash.

Vehicle Accident Leads to a Variety of Charges

Vehicle Accident Leads to a Variety of Charges

Morgan Lane Brown, 22 , was available for docket call Thursday morning at 9 a.m.  but had to await a magistrates hearing for a variety of misdemeanor charges due to an accident the night before. Brown is in Hopkins County jail following the accident. He was to appear in Eighth Judicial District Court for a pretrial hearing on the status of legal counsel for an indicted charge of Abandon Endanger Child with Intent to Return, a Felony 2.

Hopkins County deputies were called to a vehicle accident on a county road south of Como Wednesday where they encountered a number of traffic, motor vehicle, and individual violations by the male driver involved.

Their investigation began when they found the subject, Brown, aware that his license had been suspended but he had been deliberately driving in spite of that fact. It was also noted that the vehicle had been operated in a careless manner deemed at an unsafe speed due to “surrounding circumstances” according to the deputy’s report. Brown had also left the scene of the accident and drove the vehicle with a severely damaged tire that endangered others in the area.

A few of the violations regarding the vehicle were present before the accident. He was operating the vehicle with an obstructed view as pieces of Plexiglas secured by bungee-cords acted as a partial windshield. The improper windshield also revealed that the windshield wipers were broken and defective. The license plate on the vehicle was bent so that the plate was unreadable. The current registration sticker for the auto was in the driver’s pocket.

Brown was checked out by EMS before being taken into custody for numerous misdemeanor charges.  He was charged with: Driving While License Invalid; Unsafe Speed; Obstructed View Through Windshield; Display Fictitious, Altered, or Obscured license Plate; Leaving the Scene of an Accident—Vehicle Damage; Drove Vehicle in Unsafe Condition; Defective no Windshield Wipers; Careless Driving.

In May of this year, Brown had been arrested for violation of probation for Abandon Endanger Child.

Ragan Dennis is New Safe-T Advocate for 8 Counties

June 22, 2017 – Miss Ragan Dennis is an advocate and caseworker for Safe-T. She came on board following the promotion to Supervisor of Mary Ferguson, a long-time caseworker in the Sulphur Springs office. With a college background in psychology and criminal justice, Ragan is a trained professional representing Safe-T during counseling with clients, in support group meetings and awareness presentations, and through a Certified Response Team for Victims.  She can help with legal aid and assistance, accompany  clients to court dates, and work with them through law enforcement when necessary. Ragan says that Safe-T’s 24-hour hotline is an essential way for persons experiencing domestic violence and/or sexual assault to reach out for help. Safe shelter, housing and other types of practical assistance are available to clients through the services of Safe-T. The center also offers crisis intervention and anger management courses. Services are free. Since the children of victims are often exposed to an abusive environment in the home, Ragan plans to introduce to Hopkins County schools a program called “Owning Up” for 5th and 6th graders which teaches the value of respectful treatment of others.

Pleasant, Paris and Sulphur Springs and serves victims and survivors of Titus, Camp, Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, Lamar, Morris and Red River Counties.
