Lady Cats Finish District in Third With Friday Night Loss; Face Lovejoy Next Week

This one hurt. The Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers used the long ball and a big defensive play to squeeze past the Lady Cats, 5-4 at Lady Tiger Field in Mt. Pleasant Friday evening. The loss dropped the Lady Cats into third place. Mt. Pleasant and Texas High are district co-champs.

The Lady Cats now face Lovejoy late next week in bi-district with details to be determined.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the third, Mt. Pleasant’s Kamille Gill hit a three run home run to tie the score. Then trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth, Lady Tiger Vanaysha Green hit a two run home run to give the Lady Tigers a lead they would not give up. The game changed in lightning fashion in the top of the sixth. The Lady Cats, trailing 5-4, loaded the bases with just one out. Jaye Doughtie and Kelsey Wallace drew one out walks. Alli Fite then put down a bunt for a hit and the Lady Tigers went for a force out at third. Doughtie just beat the throw according to the field umpire and the bases were loaded. Macee Hollins then hit a little popper down the third base line that looked like it would fall in front of the Lady Tigers’ third baseman. She made a diving catch and then turned and threw to third catching a Lady Cat baserunner off the base on the unusual play. The improbable double play ended the promising inning.

The Lady Cats threatened in the top of the seventh as Alyssa Abron led off the inning with a single. She moved to second when Hannah Crowson was thrown out at first after a bunt. Brinklee Driver just missed one and flied out deep to right center as Abron moved to third. Kristen Allen grounded out to short. The throw to first was low but Mt. Pleasant held onto it and they celebrated the win. The Lady Cats started well scoring three times in the top of the second. Allen doubled, Sadie Stroud and Doughtie singled and Wallace cleaned the bases with a double right down the left field line. The Lady Cats used some small ball to get their fourth run, which gave them a 4-3 lead at the time. Stroud walked and Wallace doubled. Fite then put down a sacrifice bunt. On the throw to first, Stroud scored.

Mt. Pleasant outhit the Lady Cats 12 to 10. The Lady Cats had 2 errors. Bailey Haggerty took the loss throwing five innings allowing 11 hits and 4 earned runs with 1 strikeout and 1 walk. Allie Fite pitched a scoreless sixth inning working around a hit and a walk.

Flynn, DPDF Respond to Dallas Mayor’s Criticism Regarding Pension Solution Bill

Flynn, DPDF Respond to Dallas Mayor’s Criticism Regarding Pension Solution Bill
AUSTIN- After months-if not years-of negotiations, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings sent a letter out to the Dallas Taxpayers Thursday labeling the pension solution bill authored by the Chairman of the House Pensions Committee, Representative Dan Flynn (R-Van), a “taxpayer bailout.”
“I am deeply disappointed in the Dallas Mayor making allegations and spreading incorrect information that won’t hold up under scrutiny,” said Chairman Flynn. “If the Mayor would have waited a day he would have found out that his ‘improvements’ to the Plan language would have not only been NOT backed up by the objective review of the Pension Review Board, he would have realized his own staff gave him incorrect information based upon unsubstantiated assumptions about the plan itself that lead  to claims in his letter his own actuarial team won’t back up but he touted as true.”
Chairman Flynn and his staff have worked tirelessly on a pension solution for the Dallas Police and Firemen that will not only save the pension itself, but also make the plan actuarially sound. Without actuarial soundness, the plan will completely diminish within the next few years leaving many retired Dallas Police and Firemen across the state without a pension at all.
“I have offered time and time again for the Mayor to provide workable solutions but he has resorted to bullying and name calling while we are working on solutions rather than focus on protecting the 10,000 Police and Fire retirees, members and their families,” said Chairman Flynn. “That lends a lot of credence to the opinion of many that the Mayor just wants to take over the Plan and drastically attack benefits by collapsing the plan. Well that’s not going to happen. The city can’t recruit because they have a preference for parks over police and firemen, suggesting to everyone those officers rate below dirt and grass.  The current legislation raises no taxes and requires no bonds and I have no idea why the Mayor thinks it is so.  I suggest he stops wasting taxpayer dollars on expensive PR firms, lobbyists and lawyers, quit claiming bankruptcy is the answer and starts taking public safety seriously.”
