Wildcat Football: Coordinators Review Royse City Game
Wildcats Offensive Coordinator Matt Young on Royse City Game and Open Date
Going into last Thursday (September 20) night’s game at Royse City, Wildcats Offensive Coordinator Matt Young said he found several things to worry about. One was the odd Thursday game instead of the usual Friday date. Then came he weather delay. There was the Bulldogs ball control offense that gave the Wildcats only 8 or 9 possessions during the game and then Coach Young said there was the really good defense of Royse City.
Coach Young said it is good to be 3-0 for the season and 2-0 in district play. Still he said he and his staff keep looking for the perfect game from the Wildcats’ offense. Coach Young said the offensive execution was better against the Bulldogs than in earlier games. He added there were things the Wildcats could still do better. Coach Young said receiver Austin Dodd and quarterback D’Corian Young had good games against Royse City. He said the Wildcats won the turnover battle and Coach Young said the quarterback, running backs and everyone doing their assignment were factors in the lack of turnovers. He said one ball ended up on the ground but the Wildcats got it back.

Coach Young also liked offensive contributions from receivers Landry Tyson and Jase Thompson and from B-back and Bulls quarterback Jermond Bryant-Amos. The Wildcats scored two of their touchdowns on fourth down plays. Coach Young said the offensive coaching staff is using the bye week to clean up some things that might get neglected when a team is preparing for an opponent.

Wildcats Defensive Coordinator Alex Guerra Comments on RC Win and on the Bye Week
The Wildcats’ defense yielded about 200 yards of total offense last Thursday (September 20) in the district win over Royse City. The Bulldogs completed only one pass for a minus three yards. They rushed for about 200 yards. Wildcats Defensive Coordinator Alex Guerra said he was pleased with the defensive play against the pass but he acknowledged that the Bulldogs don’t pass much.
Concerning defense against the run, Coach Guerra said there were moments of good play but also some that featured missed tackles and blown assignments. He said inside linebacker Daniel Moreno had another solid game for the Wildcats. Coach Guerra said Moreno’s hard work was paying off. He said he constantly cautioned the secondary into being lulled to sleep by the Bulldogs. Coach Guerra said the Bulldogs took some shots but were not successful.

He said he was pleased with the play of the Wildcats defensive line. He said Ignacio Guerrero, Jose Rodriguez and Cameron Kaufert all had strong games. Coach Geurra said Evan Rushing also made plays. He said the Wildcats’ tackling was improved in this game. Coach Guerra said his #1 goal was to have improved tackling by the Wildcats.

He said he was happy that the Wildcats’ defense seemed to be heading in the right direction but he added they were still not where they need to be. Coach Guerra said the defense is working to clean up some things during the bye week but he said they were also doing some early work on next opponent Forney. He looks forward to getting some of his injured players back. Several situations really pleased Coach Guerra in last week’s game. One was the stop the defense made in the red zone that made the Bulldogs settle for a field goal. The other arose when defenders had a hard time picking him up before a play. He said safety Austin Dodd stepped in and made the correct call for the defense.

‘The Write Stuff’ from Young Publishers Class at Thee Treehouse Christian School

After forty years of teaching kindergarten in public classrooms and teaching writing on the college level, Sharon Feldt of Sulphur Springs, Texas came out of retirement to teach again. It has become her dream job because it’s positioned in a most satisfying environment for her creative skills. Back in 2017, Sharon joined the teaching staff at Thee Treehouse, a Christian school for home schooled kids. Her Creative Writing curriculum soon spawned the Young Publishers Class, made up of fourteen Intermediate to Middle-school age students who wanted to take the challenge of writing stories for a book. This summer, the Young Publishers did write the book which is a collection, or anthology, of original stories by the students. The genres of the stories include fiction and non-fiction and vary from actual happenings to mystery to legend to myth. It’s first-edition title is “The Write Stuff Presents Tales from Thee Treehouse”, and it is a 130-page, 14-chapter glimpse of these young published authors and their works of poems, stories and illustrations. Three of the young published authors visited the KSST/Channel 18 studios to be interviewed about their anthology.
The Creative Writing class is among the many classes offered to the 35 home schooled youngsters enrolled, who are already receiving their education basics at home. Other subjects being offered include Digital Storytelling, Art, Spanish, American Sign Language, Peices of the Globe (geography and culture of places around the world), the Young Explorers outdoors class, and S.T.E.A.M. which covers Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Teaching staff includes Debbie Rhodes, Kelli Ebel, Kelly Wallis, Sharon Feldt and Principal Carrie Hurley. The school is open 2-3 days per week and can be attended in addition to homeschool classwork taught at home. You can find out more on Facebook at Thee Treehouse or by calling Ms. Feldt at 832-687-6617.

A Glimpse of Some Fun and Interesting Activities at the Sulphur Springs Sr. Center to Benefit the Community
This week alone, a series of activities which benefit the community was held at the Seniors Center in Sulphur Springs, Texas. This was not exactly a special week, but a snapshot of the kind of good things going on there all the time! A free educational seminar about Medicare benefits, a meeting by a group which uses their knitting skills to benefit persons in need, and a Mini-Walk to raise funds for an Alzheimer’s Caregiver Respite program…plus Bingo, games, fitness and food events….that’s just a bit of what happens on a weekly basis for local Senior Citizens to get involved in!

Debbie Sheley and Ann Woodall with “The Retirement Gals” gave a wonderful and educational program about Medicare,
Medicare Supplements and Advantage Plans. Debbie has been working with Medicare for the past 33 years. She does not do sales… she does solutions. She works hard to give you information and helps you make the right decisions for YOU. Everyone’s situation is different. It isn’t a one shoe fits all. Everyone in attendance went home with a whole pie to enjoy. They will be back at the Senior Citizens Center on Monday, October 15th at 1:00 to talk about the new assistance that seniors with both Medicare and Medicaid can get this year.

The Shawls of Love Group that meets at the Senior Citizens Center
on the 4th Monday of each month has been making Little Christmas Stockings that will be filled with candy and given to some of the Nursing Homes residents in Sulphur Springs .The group could always use some more help making things for Hospice Patients, Nursing Home Residents and Cancer Patients.
