Woman Sentenced To 10 Years Deferred Probation, Restitution On 2018 Aggravated Assault Charge
Pittsburg man receives probated sentence on DWI charge; Marshall man sentenced to deferred probation on controlled substance charge
Three individuals — Mario Aguilar, Laura Ruth Alsobrook and David Joel Dean — were sentenced in district court this week on a felony charge each, according to court reports.

Mario Aguilar, 50, of Pittsburg was scheduled for a 9 a.m. court appearance Wednesday, Dec. 18, to plead guilty to driving while intoxicated third or more offense.
The charge stems from a May 4 traffic stop by a trooper for speeding on State Highway 11. Aguilar allegedly exhibited signs of intoxication and initially admitted to drinking one beer. After he was found intoxicated using field sobriety tests, he admitted to having six beers before driving, state troopers alleged in arrest reports.
The Pittsburg man was taken to jail May 4, where he allegedly tested 0.156 on breath tests, according to arrest reports. He was released from jail May 5 on $10,000 bond on the felony charge, according to jail reports. He was indicted on the charge for DWI, third or more offense, during the June grand jury session, according to court reports.
Aguilar was reportedly sentenced this week to 10 years in Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institutions Division, probated for 7 years. He also has to serve 10 days in the county jail and is required to have an ignition interlock device on any vehicle which he owns or operates, according to Assistant District Attorney Matt Harris.

Laura Ruth Alsobrook of Sulphur Springs was scheduled to appear in district court at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 18 to plead guilty before the court on an aggravated assault with deadly weapon charge.
Alsobrook was 18 at the time of her arrest on Nov. 30, 2018, on the charge. She allegedly confessed to driving a vehicle when it dragged and ran over 20-year-old Michael Calderon, who a police officer reportedly found lying face down in the 300 block of Helm Lane, shortly after 9 p.m. Nov. 29, 2018.
Calderon was reported to be unresponsive, with blood coming from his mouth and nose when an officer found him, Sulphur Springs police alleged in reports following Alsobrook’s arrest. Calderon was transported from the crash site to CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital Sulphur Springs, then to an area trauma center in critical condition, police investigators reported following Alsobrook’s arrest in 2018.
Police officers, during the course of their investigation, received information that Calderon was “attempting to purchase narcotics from a male” when he was struck by the vehicle, police alleged in arrest reports.
Alsobrook was released from jail later Nov. 30, 2018; her bond was set at $50,000 according to jail reports.
Aaron Michael Krahn was alleged by officials to have been in the vehicle with Alsobrook when Calderon was injured. Krahn was arrested July 25 at CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital and jailed on the aggravated assault charge, according to arrest reports. Krahn remained in Hopkins County jail until Oct. 31, according to jail reports.
Both Alsobrook and Krahn were indicted during the June grand jury session on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge, according to court reports.
Alsobrook’s court appearance was this week. She was reportedly sentenced to 10 years of deferred adjudication probation with restitution totaling nearly $140,000 to be paid to the victim. Her co-defendant, Krahn, was previously sentenced to 5 years in the TDCJ Institutional Division, according to the district attorney’s office.

David Joel Dean of Marshall was scheduled to appear in district court at 9 a.m. Dec. 18 to plead guilty before the court on a possession of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance.
Dean was arrested July 3, 2018. He allegedly claimed to have marijuana in his pocket as deputies were patting him down during an interstate traffic stop. However, they reported finding clear glass pipe and a black plastic bag containing a clear crystal-like substance methamphetamine. The then-38-year-old remained in Hopkins County jail until July 10; his bond was set at $25,000, according to arrest reports.
The Marshall man was indicted on a controlled substance charge during the April grand jury session, according to court reports.
Dean hast he court appearance this week to plead guilt. He was reportedly sentenced to one year of deferred adjudication probation for the controlled substance charge, according to the DA’s office.

Former Wildcat Triston Abron Reflects on Paul Pewitt at State Championship Football Game
Former Wildcat player, assistant coach and defensive coordinator Triston Abron, now the Head Football Coach at Paul Pewitt, is back home Friday (December 20) after Thursday night’s Class 3A, Division II State Championship Game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington which saw Gunter get past Paul Pewitt in the second half to win state, 43-22. Coach Abron with a hoarse voice and after about 3 hours of sleep told KSST Sports that the state game experience was awesome and unbelievable but perhaps still a bit of a blur. The Brahmas practiced all this week in the Sulphur Springs High School Multipurpose Building to get ready for Jerry’s World in Arlington. Coach Abron said he was delighted to see his players experience being in a hotel and visiting Dallas restaurants. Then there was also the chance to play in the home of the Dallas Cowboys. All of these experiences he knows his players will never forget. He said he was proud of his guys for what they were able to accomplish this season. Coach Abron said he wants to get back to the state championship game. He gives Gunter credit for being a very good team that did a great job in the championship game. He said many of their players had been to the title game before and they played that way. In the game, Coach Abron said his Brahmas came out a bit awestruck but then he said they settled down and starting doing what they do. He said they made some defensive plays that kept them in the game. The score was tied 22-22 at halftime. Coach Abron said Gunter used a defense that the Paul Pewitt coaches had never seen them play. The teams traded three films but this Gunter defense was not on any of them. He said his offensive staff had to scramble but did a heck of a job changing offensive blocking schemes for the defense. In the second half, Coach Abron said the Brahmas had to punt on the first drive. Then Gunter scored. He said the wind seemed to go out of the Brahmas’ sails a little at that time. Coach Abron said he will lose three or four keys guys on offense and defense but he said he believes he has kids that can take up the slack. Coach Abron said this might not be the end of the road for Paul Pewitt saying they might just have the chance to get back to the state championship game again.
