Volunteer of  the Year and Station of the Year were named at the RSVP 12th Annual Hopkins County Recognition Banquet Thursday afternoon, June 16th  at New Beginnings Fellowship Church in Sulphur Springs. Roughly 80 to 100 people attended, and the Banquet was catered by Murray’s BBQ. Tim Walsworth was master of Ceremonies. Juneteenth was born June 19, 1863 when General Gordon Granger and troops arrived in Galveston, Tx with the delayed news that slaves had already been freed by the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln two and a half years earlier on January 1, 1863. The Dairy Classic Sale, sponsored by the Northeast Texas Livestock Association, will be held Thursday, June 16 at the 1:o p.m. at the Sulphur Springs Livestock and Dairy Auction.   The Greenville and Hunt County YMCA is holding a summer camp program for kids ages 5-12 years old at the Sulphur Springs Elementary School. All day campers will participate in activities such as swimming, creative art projects, physical fitness, and the summer reading program. Skies were cloudy but didn’t deter the crowd of participants at the May 30 “Honor Our Veterans” Memorial Day observance in downtown Sulphur Springs. Mrs. Darlene Stanford, Executive Director of Kindred Hospice in Greenville was the organizer. She has a soft place in her heart for Veterans, especially the elderly who served during their lifetime. The Dairy Festival season will soon be upon Hopkins County once again. Contestants for the Dairy Festival Pageant have been announced, 8 soon-to-be senior girls from Sulphur Springs High School.
