Diabetes Event
AgriLife Extension Agent Johanna Hicks is involved in several events in the months ahead. There will be a Diabetes Academy Wednesday at the Extension Office starting at 9:30 a.m. Ms. Hicks says a diabetic’s educator will be available for an hour or hour and a half to answer questions about diabetes. There is no charge.

Hospital Approves Deficit Budget
Prior to voting for a deficit budget and a tax rate increase, Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Board member Suzanne Bankston said she was unhappy. Hospital Board Adopts Deficit Budget
The Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Board adopted a deficit budget for the second straight year at a meeting Monday night. The budget is almost $2.5-million in the red. The board also raised the tax rate 3.63-cents to a maximum 25-cents per $100 valuation. The board scheduled two public hearings on the tax rate: on September 8 and September 15 at noon each day.
