Trafficking Trial Postponed Until October
A jury trial in 8th Judicial District Court scheduled to begin Tuesday morning, September 8, has been postponed until October. The jury was dismissed and a new jury will be picked to the October trial of 51-year old Franklin Coy Kuhl, Jr. charged with trafficking a child for the purpose of engaging in sexual conduct. County Fire Units Respond to Cumby Fire
Several Hopkins County fire units responded to a report of a structure fire Saturday at 12:35 p.m. It was reported on County Road 1126 in the Cumby area. First fire unit on the scene reported a travel trailer was fully involved with fire. A fire unit from the Central County fire station was joined by trucks from Miller Grove, Cumby and Peerless. Firefighters reportedly put the fire out quickly. There were no injuries reported.

Wednesday morning, Justice of the Peace B. J. Teer set bond at $75,000 for 33-year old Miranda Marie Bazaldua of Sulphur Springs. Aggravated Assault Arrest Made While Investigating Burglary
A 46-year old Sulphur Springs man was booked into the Hopkins County Jail at noon on Saturday in connection with a warrant for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. Justice of the Peace B.J. Teer set bond on David Allen Grimes at $25,000. 16th Annual Lone Star Heritage Show Features 155 Quilts
The 16th annual Lone Star Heritage Quilt Guild Quilt Show is coming Friday and Saturday, September 18-19 at The ROC of First Baptist Church. More than 155 quilts will be on display including antiques, juniors, Texas entries and a raffle quilt. Admission is $5 with children under 12 free. Lots of children’s activities are planned this year. There will also be vendors, food and door prizes.
Memorial Hospital Celebrates 66th Birthday
Although no formal events have been planned, Hopkins County Memorial Hospital celebrates its 66th birthday Saturday, September 5. The hospital replaced private, small hospitals owned and operated by doctors in the area. The hospital was established by business leaders in 1949 and later the state legislature created a hospital district for Memorial.
