Sulphur Springs City Council To Consider Rate Changes
The Sulphur Springs City Council will consider several matters on second and final reading that are budget related at a special meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. Agenda items are for the appropriations ordinance, setting the tax rate, the water rate, the sewer rate, sanitation rate and authorization of updated service credits.
Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Board is Expected to Adopt a Higher Tax Rate
The Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Board is expected to adopt a tax rate for next fiscal year’s budget that is up 3.63-cents to a maximum 25-cents per $100 valuation at a Monday night meeting at 6 p.m. The board is also expected to consider a non-budgeted fiber upgrade for the Emory clinic.
Power Issues At SSISD Administration Building
It was a long hot day at the Sulphur Springs ISD Administration Building Monday. At 11:15 a.m., lights begin to flicker. By 11:30 a.m., the decision was made to cut off power to the building due to a faulty power connection outside. The very old part was very rusty and corroded. Fire at the Hampton Inn, Worker Arrested
A laborer at Hampton Inn in Sulphur Springs was arrested Friday for setting a fire in a maintenance room at the hotel earlier that day. There was very little damage to the hotel according to Sulphur Springs’ firefighters. A 45-year old Sulphur Springs man confessed to starting the fire lighting powder from firecrackers and a rag with a flammable substance on it. The fire was reported at 2:44 p.m. Friday
