Basketball and Soccer on Tuesday Game Day

Last year’s back to back Lady Cats and Wildcats’ basketball games in district play seemed to be well received by fans. The Lady Cats and Wildcats will again be involved in one on this game day Tuesday (January 7) but this one will feature non-district games and will be on the road. Sherman is the host. Action begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday with the Lady Cats JV versus the Sherman JV in the main Sherman gym. Then the Lady Cats varsity will play the Lady Bearcats varsity beginning at 6:15 p.m. with the Wildcats varsity taking on the Sherman varsity at around 7:30 p.m. with both games also in the main Sherman gym. The Wildcats JV will play Sherman’s JV at 5 p.m. in the Sherman Auxiliary Gym with the Wildcats freshman taking on the Bearcats’ freshman at 6:15 p.m in the Sherman Auxiliary Gym. The Lady Cats varsity is 6-16 for the season. The Wildcats are ranked #4 in Class 5A and they are 16-6 for the season. Wildcats Basketball Coach Clark Cipoletta says Sherman should challenge the Wildcats. He says one Bearcat player scored 42 points against Mount Pleasant last Friday in a 4 point Sherman loss. Coach Cipoletta says Sherman is athletic and will fly around and hustle. He adds they like to vary their defenses.

Meanwhile the Lady Cats Soccer Team opens the regular season at home at Gerald Prim Stadium on this game day Tuesday facing old foe North Lamar. There will be a JV contest at 5:30 p.m. The varsity match should get underway at around 7:15 p.m. The Lady Cats have a new head coach, Javier Aguayo, an assistant last year for Wildcats Soccer Coach Alexi Upton. The Lady Cats have played well in scrimmages this season. The Lady Cats tied a traditionally good Kilgore team 2-2 before losing in penalty kicks at Prim Stadium. Then the Lady Cats topped Paris, 1-0 on the road. Coach Aguayo is replacing longtime Lady Cats assistant coach and head coach Joel Bailey, who retired from coaching after last season. KSST Radio will bring you the Lady Cats and Pantherettes soccer match live from The Prim with live video and audio streaming beginning at around 7:15 p.m. The game will also be videotaped and posted to YouTube and also be broadcast at a later date on Channel 18 on Suddenlink Cable.
