September was a big month for the Sulphur Springs Public Library according to Director Hope Cain. 115 new patrons signed up for a library card during the national emphasis. Food for Fines, where food items were exchanged for $1 of credit toward library fines, resulted in donation of over 200 food items for Community Chest. September Events at the Library
September is National Library Card Sign Up Month as libraries, including the Sulphur Springs Public Library, seek new members. Cards are free. During September, the local library also has a special way to reduce library fines. It ‘s called Food For Fines. Every non-perishable food item donated reduces fines by $1. At the end of the month, all food items will be donated to the Community Chest Food Bank.
Local Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Million-Dollar Theft Ring; Over $220,000 in Restitution Paid to Victims
On July 10, 2025, Everett Van Jennings, 36, of Sulphur Springs, pleaded guilty to first-degree felony Theft of Property and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Jennings was ordered to pay $222,169.98 in restitution and a $2,500 fine.
