There is a new barricade up downtown but Sulphur Springs City Manager Marc Maxwell says this one is for a minor problem. Some stucco is falling off of a sidewall of an old fabrics building on Main Street across the street from Muddy Jakes. Maxwell says the barricades are to keep anyone from being hit by falling material. Chris Voorheese Heads United Way Fund Drive

Chris Voorheese had decided to be the drive chairman for a second straight year for the Hopkins County United Way Campaign this year. For a second straight year, Voorheese has increased the goal from the previous year. This year’s goal is $160,000. More than the $155,000 goal was raised last year. Court Appointed Special Advocates or CASA had a good day in Hopkins County Commissioners Court Monday morning. Annually the county applies to the State Comptrollers Office for excess money from electric co-ops that operate in the county, Farmers Electric and Wood County Electric. Emergency Room to be More Expensive

Hopkins County Memorial Hospital will be paying out a lot more money in the future to keep Emergency Department service through Trinity Mother Francis. TMF recently asked for an annual increase of $250,000. Memorial Hospital CEO Michael McAndrew said the increase was due to higher ER doctor salaries due to increased ER competition. Cattle Theft Averted

Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raiser’s Association Special Ranger Toney Hurley has arrested a man in connection with an aggravated theft by check case at Sulphur Springs Livestock Auction last year. 30-year-old Jacob Thompson of Louisiana was arrested by Hurley Friday in Oklahoma.
