Marijuana, THC Wax And Pills Found During Traffic Stop
3 Others Jailed On Controlled substance, Related Charges In Past 2 Days
February 8, 2022 – A 40-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was jailed after officers found marijuana, THC wax and pills in her possession, according to arrest reports. At least three others were jailed over the past two days on controlled substance or related charges as well.
Como Street Traffic Stop
Sulphur Springs Police Officer Francisco Castro stopped a purple van at 9:35 a.m. Feb. 7, 2022, on Como Street at College Street for a traffic violation. While talking to the woman, Castro reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle. When asked about the odor, Katy Leanne Wilburn allegedly admitted she had recently smoked marijuana in the vehicle.

When asked to step out of the Chevrolet Uplander LS, the officer noted the woman’s front pants button and zipper were undone. He asked her why, if she had contraband in her pants. She claimed she did not and that there was nothing illegal in the van.
A search of the van, however, revealed several containers of suspected THC wax, and two baggies with orange pills suspected to be Adderall and MDMA (known on the street as Ecstasy). She was taken into custody and the vehicle was impounded.
At the jail, jail staff found another baggy containing a crystal-like substance the corrections officer suspected to be methamphetamine, another bag containing orange pills suspected to be Adderall, and a brown cigar containing a green, leafy substance of suspected marijuana, under her clothing and in her private area. A records check showed four warrants: two for driving while license invalid, one for expired operator’s license and one for failure to maintain financial responsibility. The substances were weighed. The suspected meth weighed 0.6 gram and the pills and other substances weighed less than 4 grams.
Wilburn, who jail reports show is also known by Red, Little Lucky, Snowball and Mikey, was charged with possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance (the suspected meth) and possession of more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 2 controlled substance, as well as the four traffic warrants. Fees owed on the four traffic charges totaled $2,035.40. She remained in Hopkins County jail Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022. Bond was set at $10,000 on the Penalty Group 2 charge and $5,000.

CR 1174 Welfare Concern Call
Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Chris Baumann and Aaron Chaney were dispatched to CR 1174, where a caller expressing concern for a man said to be flailing his arms about and talking to himself while walking west on County Road 1174 from State Highway 154 south around 3:40 p.m. Feb. 6, 2022. Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Britain Marlow was nearby and responded as well. Marlow stopped and was talking with the man when deputies arrived.
A records check showed the man to have an outstanding Wichita County warrant. While officer waited for confirmation the warrant was indeed active, the showed “severe signs of possible intoxication of methamphetamine,” Deputy Aaron Chaney noted in arrest reports.
The man, identified in reports as 46-year-old Michael David Hayden of Mabank, was placed into custody at 2:46 p.m. Sunday. After being checked by EMS personnel due to what Chaney described in arrest reports as the man’s “odd behavior,” he was transported to jail. Hayden was booked in at 4:21 p.m. Feb. 6, 2022, on the Wichita County warrant for violation of probation-possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance.
Hayden, who is also known by Mike Moniker, was held Hopkins County jail Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022 on the felony warrant.

I-30 East Traffic Stop
A traffic stop at mile marker 116 exit on Interstate 30 east at 1:55 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, resulted in a pair’s arrest on a controlled substance charge.

HCSO Deputies Drew Fisher and Isaac Foley reported searching the Kia Rio after smelling a marijuana odor while talking to the pair inside of it. A glass pipe of the kind commonly used to smoke methamphetamine containing 0.093 gram of a crystal-like substance were found.
When asked for ID, 32-year-old Sulphur Springs woman in the vehicle reportedly gave the deputy a driver’s license that was not hers. Then, she gave deputies a name and date of birth which they learned was fake after talking to her grandmother. A records check using the name Shaina Cheyanne Fields showed the woman to be wanted for violation of parole. She then admitted she knew she had the warrant and lied to deputies.
Neither 36-year-old Jeffrey John Cooley of Idabel, Oklahoma nor Fields of Sulphur Springs claimed the contraband found in the vehicle so both were taken into custody at 2:11 a.m. Sunday. The substance field-tested positive for meth. Both Cooley and Fiends were booked into jail on a possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance charge. Field also was charged with failure to identify as a fugitive from justice and the parole warrant.
Fields, who jail reports show to be known to use the aliases Samantha Peasley and Makeisha Jones, remained in Hopkins County jail Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022. Bond was set at $5,000 each on the controlled substance and failure to ID charges; she was held without bond for the parole board. Cooley also remained in Hopkins County jail Feb. 8, 2022, in lieu of $5,000 bond on the controlled substance charge.
HCSO Sgt. Scott Davis served Fields at 11 p.m. Feb. 8 with an additional warrant revoking her bond on an Aug. 26, 2021 possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance charge.
